Strong field of teams listed. Last minute change? Chiefs out and Alpharetta A's in, going to miss some key match ups and rematches. Looks like Yankees have toughest matches in Pool play. Astros had a tought go at the Smoltz Grisholm wood bat. Home Plate & Shamrocks miss out again last weekend due to rain. This one should be fun to watch. |

Papa does not know any more than you although I have heard some rumblings concerning the sanctioning. I don't know for sure but I am just so glad that we are playing somewhere. This has been a nightmare of a year for playing travel baseball. Papa has done a ton of traveling but played very little baseball and I just want to get the guys on the field and let them play some ball. I do know that only the Georgia boys will be playing this weekend and I can't wait to see them finally play in sunshine. |

In Semi finals the EC Shamrocks beat the EC Astros 5-4 and HP Chilli Dogs beat the Mill Creek Hawks 6-5. In Championship play the Chilli Dogs came back from a 7-2 deficit and won the third straight AAU State Championship by 10-8. Both of these clubs played the game right way with class. |

Some great games were played, the weather was brilliant, and no doubt about it the kids at the 12u level in GA can ball! And although our team didn't win, the competition was excellent. Hats off to the Chilidogs again.
That being said, I felt the umpiring - at least on Sunday - was way below par for a state championship. I hate to go overboard, but most objective observers would probably classify it as poor - even on calls that went our team's way.
Hey, everybody blows a call now and again, but the coach-baiting comments, a strike zone that changed from AB to AB (letter-high or belt-high now?), and not hustling into position to make a quality call on two or three critical bang-bang plays made - our game at least - a difficult one to enjoy.
These are the top teams around, so why not grab the top umps available? Aside from that blot, it was very good tournament. |
