The Sequoyah Jr Chiefs Baseball Club is currently scheduling tryouts for the upcoming 2017-2018 season. Our tryout dates for the 12U age group are as follows:
Saturday: July 15th
12U: 1:30 - 3:00
Saturday: July 22nd
12U: 12:00 - 1:30
The Sequoyah Jr Chiefs are looking for athletic players that have competitive baseball experience and are willing to learn, work hard and earn a spot on our team. We cater to athletes that play other sports in the off-season and plan our training, practice and tournament schedule around those sports in the fall and winter.
Our squad will have a light fall schedule consisting of indoor pitching/hitting instruction, outdoor practices, professional instruction and a few tournaments. The fall workouts will be held indoors at our private state of the art 4,000 square foot conditioned facility and outdoor practices will be held at our own private field. Our Club has competed at Cooperstown since 2008 and we will continue that heritage this year. Coupled with playing in Cooperstown, our spring schedule will include 8-10 tournaments and we will be competing at the AAA level.
Our organization was established in 2008 and has a history of developing athletic kids into solid baseball players that have gone on to play high school and college baseball. Our program is not only endorsed by the Sequoyah High School coach, Travis King, they workout at our facility, evaluate our teams, host camps and is a key contributor to our baseball operations. Our mission is to teach, mentor and prepare athletes to compete and play baseball for their high school team and will do that through a strong roster comprised of high character athletes that are both in and out of our high school district.
Offers and roster decisions will be made on or before August 1st and posted on our club website @ www.jrchiefsbaseball.com We encourage everyone to attend (2) tryouts and if you have a conflict we can schedule a private workout that fits your schedule.
The Sequoyah Jr Chiefs Baseball Club is located at 2066 Sugar Pike Rd Woodstock, GA 30188, where all home games, training and practices are held. If you have not played or visited our private campus and are looking for a home, we encourage you to come out and visit our private park as there is nothing like it.
There is a $30 fee for tryouts and all participants can register and pay on our website at www.jrchiefsbaseball.com

We are excited to announce Shawn Cheek as the professional instructor for the upcoming 12U team. Shawn has extensive an extensive baseball background having played for the Boston Red Sox as well as played and coached for the Texas Rangers. He will lead our efforts on all baseball instruction for the upcoming season.

We have had several inquiries about the number of openings for a team going to Cooperstown as well as the professional instruction. Every member of the 11U team will tryout for a spot to be on the 12U team. We see potentially 4-5 openings looking for pitching and catching additions. We can take up to 4 out of Sequoyah HS district players, so we are not limited to just in district players for the team.
As for the professional instructor for the team, please see the following Bio for Shawn Cheek.
Shawn was signed as a free agent catcher out of Georgia Southwestern University by the Texas Rangers and played seven years of professional baseball at different levels of classification. He made it to AA with the Rangers and was eventually traded to the Boston Red Sox. Shawn was awarded the Big South League MVP where he led the league in hitting in several categories and also won the South Atlantic League championship with the minor league Red Sox affiliate, Augusta Green Jackets.
After his playing career, Shawn managed professionally and coached at different levels. He currently lives in the Hickory Flat area with his wife and three children. Shawn is the founder of Talkin' Baseball to enable him to share his passion and expertise on every aspect of the game, including private baseball instruction, team lessons, and coaching clinics for all ages. Additionally, Shawn works with Real Momentum ministries with the mission of helping Men win. Shawn is an effective speaker encouraging and challenging listeners from all walks of life with his story of perseverance and faith.
The upcoming 12U team will play a relaxed Fall schedule to allow for players to play football and basketball. We plan to play 3 tournaments and follow a winter throwing and hitting program, then ramp up fully in February.

For those of you that have signed up for tryouts or are going to sign up, I will be sending an email out to determine the number of you who will be attending the tryout this weekend or next weekend. Both are encouraged if possible, but we just want to get an order of magnitude.

We will be having our second tryout on Saturday 7/22 @ 12:00 PM. If you are planning on attending, please be at the field 30 minutes before the workout. If you haven't registered, please do so at our website www.jrchiefsbaseball.com
