What happened to the days when travel ball was designed for the upper echelon players to grow and showcase their talents? Today it seems like travel teams are popping up like daisies, some of them with mediocre coaching at best. I think I counted 93 11u teams from Macon to Dalton.

Don't get me wrong, the more kids we can have playing this great game, the better. I just worry that travel ball is becoming too diluted and people have started forming teams just to say they play travel ball too. The only ones really smiling might be the companies that put on these tournaments.

As a former player in the travel ball system, I guess I'd just like to return to when the Majors teams and talent outnumbered the AA teams, which unfortunately isn't the case today by a long shot. Just a thought.
