My son's coach has started work on his 2020 Spring schedule. Some of the parents have asked about a vacation/destination tournament to end the season. Do many teams still do that type of big end of the year vacation tournament? After Cooperstown at 12U I thought this sort of thing stopped.

Yes, many do. Some are more "vacation" than others, of course.

With some kids starting the showcase circuit, I was thinking that the summer destination tournaments would go away. What would be the best out of state end of year tournament to go to? PG down in Florida?

It's not 'vacation' or 'destination' per say... You're right about the showcases, but plenty of teams seek the large 'year end' tourneys. Like you stated, there's 3 big ones in FL (PG). THE biggest is in Alabama (WWBA).

Of course, none of those 4 would be considered 'vacations'. Ft Myers (BCS) and Sanford for Super25 and World Series. Sanford is 1+ hr to the beach, although closer to Disney. Ft Myers is obviously closer to the beach, but then again, you're playing a LOT of ball during these tourneys. And with rain delays, think Cooperstown and the craziness. For the Granddaddy of them all, the WWBA that's in Hoover. Nothing 'destination' or 'vacation' about that. But again, with garnering over 100+ teams and playing 7 pool play games over 4 days, it's not about a vacation, it's about baseball.

If you want destination or vacation, looks at TC and their Omaha tourneys. Or Shipyard. Neither of these offer crazy competition, but they do offer more of a vacay feel.

Though yes, to answer your question, by 14's the 'destination' tourneys have all but played themselves out. I don't even thing PCB/Gulf Shores offer tourneys 14U+... Myrtle (Shipyard) may be the only option, but I can remember hearing others talk: "We spent all this money to come up here for a 7 team tourney, 5 of them rec all-star teams, and the other one a local team we have played 4-6 times"...
