Posted - 02/23/2009 : 15:59:10 I can testify that the Bandits don't have to leave Georgia to find all the competition they can handle. But its also so much fun to play teams that you don't see every day and having already been to Cooperstown with my older grandson that plays for the "Chiefs" that won it all I can emphatically state that "Cooperstown" is a great place to play baseball. |

Posted - 02/21/2009 : 19:19:40 I bet there will be better games and tougher competition at the S-NIT with only 26 teams than the 100 at Cooperstown. Go back and look at last years 10u lineup at Cooperstown. I got to see Leon Medical play in Tampa last year while at a TB Rays game. They were an awsome team but only about 10 at Cooperstown like that all the rest were just pitchcount eaters. Believe me I would love to be able to say we won Cooperstown but I think the competition is better right here in Ga. |

Posted - 02/21/2009 : 08:00:38 This explains why a couple of these teams are not playing in all 3 of the huge early season tourneys. Gotta cut costs somewhere to fit Cooperstown into the budget. Best of luck! I hope the Georgia teams don't face each other until the final 4.

Posted - 02/20/2009 : 15:32:30 I've said this before, but besides the level of competition, a Gwinnett team doesn't have much reason to play in the Triple Crown tournaments. Especially if the team goal is a USSSA post season event. Triple Crown points don't help with USSSA standings.

I've noticed only 2 of 26 teams (Scorpions,Express)from that side of town in the Majors division, & 3 (ad EC Bulldogs)of 32 overall (major+AAA) w/ only 4 spots left.
There are only 6 Cobb area teams in the Forsyth Slugfest as well. However, 12 Cobb area teams chose to play in their own backyard (TC Spring Frost), so its not the weather keeping them away.
Any other thoughts? If you had to choose 1 of these 3, why not choose to play the best in the S-NIT rather than bang each other around for the most part? You have all season to do that.
I can't speak for everyone else in East Cobb but ATPP (which we are playing in) is 10 minutes away from my house. Forsyth is 45-50 minutes (which we also are playing in). Henry County has the worst traffic in ATL and is 75-90 minutes away if traffic is good. Personally, I hate playing in Henry County, mainly due to traffic on I-75 (only traffic in ATL on weekends). Having said that, I have 2 players on a school field trip that weekend so it wasn't an option for our team. 643 has players from the same schools as we do so they could be missing players as well.
For the record, there are 0 Gwinnett teams in the TC Frost which includes every Top 10 in the state + Bay Bombers except the ECB Tigers and Stixx (who were previously signed up). It is too bad because we were hoping to see the Grip team that you keep mentioning. Do you know why they aren't playing?

Posted - 02/20/2009 : 15:27:11 I heard that the Grip is still looking for one more player or may have just found one more ... I can't remember. That may have something to do with it.

Posted - 02/20/2009 : 08:24:05 We have made a very tough decision to attempt to play in all of the very most elite tournaments that we can find. We want to see and play all of the teams that are above us in the rankings to face and determine how we stack up.
I hope and at this point do not believe that the East Cobb teams are dodging anyone or trophy hunting but would hope that we see them and all of the other great teams get into the fray quickly.
The reason I said it was a tough decision to enter the tournaments we have is that we fully understand and expect that we might lose a few more games than last year but have decided that the best way to get better is to play the best. |

I admire the teams most who make the S-NIT their 1st priority. This field is much stronger than the other two. I can see skipping the Slugfest due to so many feeder teams, but not the S-NIT.

Posted - 02/16/2009 : 17:47:28 Having played at Disney last year as 9u I feel the competition level is so good at ATL Super NIT this year I don't see how Disney could top it. It's going to take alot of luck to go with great skill and some really good coaching to win this thing. I hope who'ever wins it wins Disney to and the National Championship in Memphis. Good luck to you all. |

Posted - 02/16/2009 : 14:12:19 We can't wait to watch some quality baseball up here at the Super NIT. I agree with the prior post that if you end up in the top 5 you have done something. The talent should be deep. I think there will be a lot of surprises. I don't know if some of the teams that have signed up realize the talent that will be here. Having success in fall ball (Football season) in no way guarantees success in the spring. This is BASEBALL season and I hope everyone is preparing accordingly. Rumor has it that some aren't putting in the work required to compete. I guess we'll see soon enough. March isn't far off. |

Posted - 02/15/2009 : 09:47:39 5 categories: pitchers, catchers, position players, hitters, all around. I see the best overall, and best position player as toughest to grade. The pitchers, catchers, hitters will jump out at you. Pitching (velocity & nasty changes), catchers (who stop the running game), and hitters (popping it over), are easy to spot. They create a buzz in the stands of a big tourney. The all around 5 tool player who is sound in all areas, but doesn't do any of the above with any great regularity is tough to spot by casually watching a tourney.

I totally agree the Bomber's catcher is a great player but no way is he is the best in 10U baseball. There are many contenders for this title but since we have only played a few 10U games in the fall, lets wait and see how this plays out.
But this does make for a good topic?
What are we looking for when we judge this best 10U player.
1. Pitching 2. Hitting 3. Defense 4. Speed 5. All of the above

Posted - 02/14/2009 : 14:34:04 I have seen the Bombers catcher play, he's probably the best 10u player out there. I hear they picked up a big 150 lbs lefty that can hit 300ft and has great pitching ability, can't wait to see them play. I hear they might make a surprise visit at the Frost on the 27th |
