This looks as impressive as any world series. Seems to be a lot of ECB teams missing. This should be a "Barn Burner." Ga teams will be fine. |

That is as good as a final 4 as anyone could come up with and its fun to talk about it now in this bad weather but the great thing about baseball is that you can't figure it out. There might not be one of the above in the final 4 and they could all be replaced with another name.
The 10U Division should be in for one great year of baseball. If your team expects to win this year they will need to be on the top of their game every game and you had better come prepared and be ready to rumble right out of the gate. It seemed like last year that there were some breathers you could take. Looks like the breathers might be gone.
Has anyone noticed the teams that have not entered these first few tournaments. It speaks well for your division when you can fill all the slots and still have several great teams on the waiting list. |

Why would the Carolina Angels travel to Atlanta for a SNIT when they are signed up for one in their own back yard with 2 berths a few weeks later? Hmmmmm. |

If they don't come, Lets all of us sign up for the one in their backyard and show them how Georgia plays baseball. BMoser knows I am not into predictions but I will go out on the limb and say that I believe that there are several Georgia teams that could beat them. |

Guys this thing is getting close. I read in the one of the other posts that the North Carolina Super NIT was awarding two slots to Disney. Does anyone know if the Ga. Super NIT is also awarding one place or do we also get two. |

BMOSER, BASEBALLPAPA, GREGLOMAX, LIFEGUARD, SOMEBODY, how do they determine how many elite berths per state? This don't add up. I thought they expanded it to 32 teams? |

We have been looking at this too because it can dictate which Super NIT's you go after. If you can increase your chances by going to one over the other, it can make a big difference. I am wondering if they award 2 berths to places that have a harder time drawing tough competition. GA Super NIT has not had that problem, so there is no reason for them to offer two. Whereas one such as MS Super NIT, which for the 13U division is the same weekend as Battle in the South, it might require 2 to draw some of the bigger names.
I noticed that the math works out to 30 berths. Meaning they probably keep 2 as at-large berths for top teams that don't make it. If I am not mistaken there were some teams there last year that did not win a Super NIT. Either they got there because the team that DID win did not decide to come, or USSSA gave out at-large berths. Interesting none-the-less. |

I do know that you don't have to win a SNIT to get a birth, some teams will decline their birth( I think you have to send them a $1000 in the first 48 hours),if the winner already has a birth it gets passed down to 2nd place etc...there were a few at large bids at 12u last year as well, one team never finished higher than 6th place in a SNIT but got an invitation none the less, would expect more of this with the field growing to 32. |

Also, the previous years winner of Elite 24 automatically gets in as well as the two winners of the Major World Series. Pardon me, I shouldn't say "get in" but win berths. Those three spots usually have until sometime in March to "accept" the berth and send the $$$$. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds. |

I spoke with Matt T our USSSA Director and inquired on the very same question; he told me that in addition to the Super NIT births awarded the award the Major World Series winner from the previous year as well as the defending champion for the Elite WS the previous year. Now according the amount of births listed this does not look possible. He did tell my that they had the right to award births, and not all 2nd place teams get one. Did not agree with the methods just had some issues with how it was handled last year. My son plays on the Mill Creek 12U team and last year we were very competive in the SNIT's and fell short. One birth was awarded in Fl to a team that never play due to rain out; they were awarded based on points. Hopes this helps. |

The Bandits actually won 2 Super NIT tournaments last year. One in Atlanta and the other in Tennessee. The berth for the Tennessee Super NIT was given to the 2nd place finisher. It seems that since Atlanta has so many top national teams entered that it would make sense to award two. If you are fortunate enough to win the Atlanta tournament you will have taken the hard road. In fact if you get 2nd or 3rd in Atlanta it will be quite an accomplishment. |

Not positive, but I think the previous year champion gets an automatic berth if they choose to use it. |

USSSA top 100 U.S. in '08 entered in '09 S-NIT (# total roster moves): #4 Bandits (3) #8 Sandtown (3) #20 Bombers (0) #23 Mizuno (see below) #26 Yard Dogs (10) #32 TPSA (6) #43 Mill Creek (15) #45 PTB Elite (4) #55 PTB Chili (11) #74 Midway (3) #96 Kennesaw (9)
After the tourney's over, we'll know if their roster moves worked.
Mizuno isn't a team as we think of it. Its an organization of roughly 30 boys that constantly shift between 9U,10U,11U. The organization also adds and loses players often. Many players are on multiple age groups rosters. Some 9's also play up as 10's, and some 10's also play up as 11's. Some have already been on 3 rosters in 2009! 3 teams in 6 weeks! I suppose once they win a qualifier, then they stop all the player shifting for that group of say 10 boys to avoid violating USSSA rules. I'd like to get your takes on them.
Are they taking advantage of the system USSSA has put into place? Can USSSA really monitor all this? Can Mizuno keep track of it all themsleves to avoid roster rule violations? Can any of us even figure out if they are abiding by the roster rules, or not? I don't we could unless we had access to the dates they made each move then check those against tourney dates they may have qualified in to see what that teams roster was at that moment in time, then follow each boy forward in time to see if he pops up with a very different Mizuno group playing at the same age level he qualified for previously. See how tough this gets to regulate? Does it even matter? |
