13u field for USTBA Tourney at ECB next weekend has turned out to be pretty competitive. Should prove to be a pretty darn good tourney for teams in metro and surrounding areas. Let's hope the rain runs its course this weekend as that will be a good sendoff to spring break. Good to see Bulldog, PCV and Astros join in recently.

Well Mommabee, that team got the #1 seed without #2. I imagine those other 10 boys feel like they can win with or without him.

Did you see their last game?

As for the So Cal National Travel Team, if most of the players were from up north I am sure they were just glad to get a chance to get out of the cold and play some ball.
Dr. Old School Posted - 04/06/2009 : 19:09:03
Well I picked 10 out of 17 right for pool placement:

Team Division Actual Division
Braves Baseball Club N N
Powder Springs Seminoles N U
Rome Rage N N
PTB Hurricanes N N
East Cobb Longhorns N A
Sandy Springs Longhorns A A
Team Gwinnett A U
SW Express Baseball A A
ECB Combat A U
West Cobb Dawgs A N
Hobgood Heat A A
So. CA. NTT (CA) U N
ECB Stallions U U
Pro Spot Athletics U U
Bulldogs Baseball U A
ECB Astros U U
Paulding Co. Vipers U U

The big misses were:
Powder Springs Seminoles - A lot better than I had anticipated. Good showing for them.

Bulldog Baseball - Chalk it up to a bad weekend. They did recover to win the American Division.

So Cal National Travel Team - My estimate was based on how they usually put their older teams together, but this team was made up of kids mostly from the NE. They did not live up to the billing. I would assume they were just glad to come down and get some games in.

The EC Stallions showed they have a solid team that should compete strongly this season. Interesting they got paired up against the EC Combat in elimination play to start answering the question about who the #2 team is out of EC at 13U.

All in all it sounds like everyone had an enjoyable weekend.

Bulldog won 6-4
loveforthegame25 Posted - 04/05/2009 : 21:15:58
anyone know who won the Bulldog Longhorn game?
Dr. Old School Posted - 04/04/2009 : 23:42:20
The only surprises in the 13U was Bulldog Baseball going 0-2. Everyone else seemed to land about where expected. Hobgood Heat got a good spot, but unfortunately have an opponent of either Bulldog Baseball or Southwest Express. Either will be a tough game.

going into bracket play now...any real shockers???
hardballer22 Posted - 04/03/2009 : 16:07:37
um i dont know what state they one but they lost to the cartersville canes 14 and 15 year old team in that bpa march to rome tourney. i think they have a pretty good chance this weekend to atleast win the national tourney, i dont see them winning the ultimate though. but we will see
titansx11 Posted - 04/03/2009 : 14:37:37
We are sending a coach. I will get with you after the gmae and give you our info. Not sure how much we can tell in a practice. From what has been told to me is they pick up players from several states and just come play. I assume they are trying to have practice to see where everyone fits in. C-ya in a few hrs.
loveforthegame25 Posted - 04/03/2009 : 13:05:06
FW are you sending someone to watch them practice, if so let me know what you find out, maybe we both can beat them...... TW

Hardballer22,
Was that the National, American, or Ultimate State they won?

Just wondering if they had a state tournament for each last year or whether it was just a State tournament for USTBA in general.
Dr. Old School Posted - 04/03/2009 : 09:37:33
hardballer,
I would recommend anyone not take their opponents lightly. We all know that not being known does not make you an unworthy opponent.

Just for some insight, what all teams played in the USTBA State? I don't seem to be able to find USTBA's tournament history from the website.

Also, which 14 and 15 year old team did they lose to?

titansx11 Posted - 04/03/2009 : 09:37:04
Hardballer22, what tournament was it that they finished 2nd to a 14-15 yr old team? I have never heard of the North Ga Titans either. I look forward to watching them play. I know they got the toughest draw in the tournament. Good luck.
goyard Posted - 04/03/2009 : 09:08:42
Hardballer22 - wasn't that guy... but thanks, we have the Rome Rage 1st up. Sounds like our boys better get ready to play some good ball tonight based on your assessment(hoping we get the games played tonight)! Much prefer a scrappin' game
hardballer22 Posted - 04/02/2009 : 19:09:32
to the guy who has not heard of the rome rage i have info. The Rome Rage were the north georgia titans last year which one ustba state. they have very great pitching and there hitting is amazing averaging 10 runs a game in there last tourney which they got second place too by only loosing one game and it was to a 14 and 15 year old team. Look out for this rage team they are no joke
titansx11 Posted - 04/02/2009 : 17:33:23

Greg - You did go put the field Tarps out Right?????!!!!! Remember, both SP and ECB!
kehndog Posted - 04/01/2009 : 13:47:58
Regarding USTBA Ultimate/American/National splits, it appears that it is solely based on the number of teams in each tournament age bracket. Check the 14U schedule and brackets for this weekend ... only 7 teams means only two brackets (American & National). The teams include EC Astros, EC Braves, and Georgia Prospects, but there is no Ultimate bracket. Pure speculation.
Dr. Old School Posted - 04/01/2009 : 10:29:42
Mommabee,
Given the schedule, the Vipers and Stallions have the best chance of getting the #1 and #2 seeds in the Ultimate division because it will probably require not giving up any runs and scoring a bunch. (Not to take anything away from the teams they will be playing). The #1 seed puts you in the semi finals due to having a bye the first round. Not to mention it puts you on the opposite side of the bracket from the #2 and #3 seed. However, with this group, getting the #4 seed in that semi game might not be a walk in the park either.

Bulldog Baseball and the Astros have at least one opponent each that may score some runs on them.

We shall see. Unless someone has a crystal ball, this is all hypothetical anyway. But fun none-the-less.
greglomax Posted - 04/01/2009 : 10:21:50
Personally (not speaking for the team, just myself) I would have preferred the director had allowed teams to designate whether they wanted to play for the Ultimate division or not. If so, they all would be grouped together and would play pool games to seed out for elimination play. Under that circumstance I would have no issue playing the Vipers, Bulldogs, or Stallions in pool play.

Then take the other teams and let them play pool games to determine which ones go to the American Division and which go to the National division.

It can be a big difference between the teams trying to get in the Ultimate division and the ones that will end up in the National division.
ingasven Posted - 04/01/2009 : 08:53:09
Better change my guesses now that the pools are actually out. On another small note, Columnist, you missed the "?" I put next to Kennesaw & Longhorns when you copied my predictions for Slugfest...where were your stabs at who would win?

Since everyone moves on in this tournament into one division or another I think instead of making a guess at who might go further than anticipated I'll pick my sleeper to sneak into the Ultimate Division and maybe create some excitement once there.....Combat (I don't think Seminoles or Hobgood would be a sleeper pick).

Good Luck to everyone this weekend....

Titansx11,

We play Saturday @ 11:15 & 3:45...Tourney definitely has different teams to see, but none of the FL powerhouses are there (good thing to be honest). Keep me updated with the games at EC & I'll let you know how it goes in the swamp.
scottwill311 Posted - 03/31/2009 : 17:23:06
Mommobee,
Going out on a limb and predicting the Astros,Vipers, and Bulldogs to rise up and play well! Did you forget about the Atl.Super NIT semi-finalists Prospot Fitness? Not to mention the SS Longhorns, they have proven to hang with the top teams.
bigdog Posted - 03/31/2009 : 15:03:36
Greg,
aside from the Sandy Springs Longhorns who have been playing good baseball...you have to admit you like your draw a whole lot better that having one that plays the Vipers, Bulldogs or Stallions in a pool game. The Rage and the PTB Hurricanes got a terrible "draw"
goyard Posted - 03/31/2009 : 14:37:25
GL - I have learned that any team taken too lightly might just prove TOO light!
