13u field for USTBA Tourney at ECB next weekend has turned out to be pretty competitive. Should prove to be a pretty darn good tourney for teams in metro and surrounding areas. Let's hope the rain runs its course this weekend as that will be a good sendoff to spring break. Good to see Bulldog, PCV and Astros join in recently. |

Anyone know anything about the So Cal National Travel Team?
Looks like a good tournament. The closer teams will start play on Thursday night. |

It is a very competitive tournament. We are looking forward to playing. I know Ken' Mustangs are not in this tournament, but could Inga give us a break down of possible pools and winners etc.? G' Lomax you can put your 2 cents in as well. Maybe this topic will help you get to 1000 faster. |

USTBA Pools, random selection or are they going to use some kind of criteria? Everyone is paid and start is Thursday, im assuming Monday or Tuesday they will be out. Man there are alot of talented 13U kids around here. Very Impressive |

Can someone tell us how USTBA determines divisions after pool. Do they always split by 3 divisions (Ultimate, American, and National) or only if they determine teams to be good enough to play in the Ultimate division. If they do split into 3 divisions, what is the criteria for splitting (ranking after pool play, etc)?
It would be interesting to know before we start disecting the teams. |

This is how I would expect the divisions to fall out based on how everyone is playing right now. The question is, how much will pool play dictate this. Say two teams, that should end up ultimate, are paired together in pool play. One will have a loss. Will that put them in American, which they may be too strong for. Is that fair to the teams in American. Conversely, if an American or National level team gets two easy pool games, they might end up in Ultimate, which they would have a hard time competing in.

Last year they would take the POOL winners and put them in the Ultimate, the second place POOL winners in American and so forth...How they put them in the pools is the question..I will assume that its a random draw..So you may get a good draw or have to play to win in pool play...When they get a certain amout of teams is when they split it to 3 different Championships...Don't know if they know which team has done what but it will be interesting to see how the cookie crumbles.. |

Powder Springs needs to be in the A group for sure. Havent seen West Cobb Dawgs play at all. What have they done to deserve to be in the A group? |

Sorry, the West Cobb Dawgs and Powder Springs Seminoles should have been switched. Typo.

The East Cobb Longhorns have the capability of being in the A group, but until they get win a game or two and get their confidence up, the National division is where they probably will end up. |

Titansx11,
We signed up for a tournament in Jacksonville back when this one showed nobody in it and for the opportunity to play a few different teams. I wish we had known this one was going to be so good!
I can't argue with the Doc's breakdown of Ultimate, American & National, just wish we knew who was going to be in which pool.
Will definitely be some good games.
We all know the two or three favorites so I'm going to make my "FOR FUN ONLY" guess of what "best of the rest" team progresses the furthest...I'll say Combat or the Seminoles with Braves Baseball as my Darkhorse. It's sad I have to say this, but, I don't mean any disrespect to the teams I've mentioned or anyone I haven't mentioned...FOR FUN ONLY |

I sure hope if they are planning on having local teams play this Thursday that they will release the schedule today. Can anyone from the USTBA give us an update? I know they follow this site.
Just my opinion, but I think it's fine to break out the tournament into two classes after pool play, but not three. |

I actually think teams are more comforted by the fact that you aren't picking them ingasven after your picks for Slugfest. Remember these?
A)Kennesaw
B)Bstros
C)Longhorns
D)Vipers
Although it would be fun to see you try to spell Astros again |

I just spoke with Paul Jennings the National Director of USTBA, the schedules will be out this evening to all participants. There will be NO Thursday night games. All games will be played Fri, Sat, Sun at ECB and Harrison Park in East Cobb. |

It's out now. Have fun disecting it.
Looks like the top 7 seeds go into the Ultimate Division, the next 5 in the American Division, and the bottom 5 in the National.

Based on the pool games greglomax listed above, here is how I estimate the records will be coming out of pool play. If correct, the 2-0 teams will go to the Ultimate division. two 1-1 teams will go to the Ultimate division, while the rest go to the American division. Two 0-2 teams will be in the American division while the remaining 0-2 teams go to the National Division.
Team Pool Play Braves Baseball Club 0-2 East Cobb Combat 1-1 Pro Spot Athletics 2-0 SW Express Baseball 1-1
Bulldogs Baseball 2-0 East Cobb Longhorns 0-2 Team Gwinnett 1-1 West Cobb Dawgs 0-2 East Cobb Astros 2-0 Sandy Springs Longhorns 1-1
Rage Baseball 0-2 PC Vipers 2-0 East Cobb Stallions 2-0 PTB Hurricanes 0-2
Hobgood Heat 1-1 Powder Springs Seminoles 1-1 S. CA. National Travel Team 1-1

The Braves Baseball Club and West Cobb Dawgs are the only two teams out of 17 that have any USTBA points.
Are there big complaints about the pairing, or just curiosity about how it was done? |

Go Yard, there's no way this was a random draw. Someone at the USTBA knows who is who in 13U travel ball. I actually think they did a pretty good job making sure the Elites get through to the Ultimate, some of the others have a chance to fight their way to that Division, and some of the weaker teams have a chance to play in a meaningful tournament on Sunday. Good job USTBA! |

JMHO....nothing about it looks random. Astros, Vipers Bulldogs and Stallions have easier draws than any team. |
