I was at a tourney this weekend that had 7u-14u teams playing and the amount of parental yelling was absurd, especially in the younger age groups!

Don't you think your kid is trying to throw strikes?

Don't you think your kid is trying to get on base?

Don't you think your kid knows he just booted the ball?

Would it be helpful or encouraging to you if your boss screamed at you across the office that you screwed up a report, or a customer account, or your figures?

What is wrong with some parents? Even at 14u this is a GAME people! get a grip on yourself!

Every parent and coach should watch this. Live it.

GA, FL, CA...always. Talent, weather, facilities and opportunities to play under great coaching all play in..as well as so many opportunities to play at a competitive level. We are lucky!

Without a doubt, Ga. is loaded with talent.

Or you could go glass full and say "What does that say about the amount of shear talent in the Atlanta area that all these kids made the list?"

As HShulers coach once told him, "You can't steal first."

What about 2018 Times? How many of those are committed? Just curious.

I saw a 90mph pitcher get hosed this weekend....yes it was 90, but it was also straight as an arrow. He only pitched one inning.

Yeah, all this ^^^ is true, but the real point is what is important to pro scouts, as reported. They use speed and velocity as the primary factors to weed kids out. It may not be enough to play MLB, but if you don't have either, then don't even bother.

100% true, one of my players went to the braves tryout and the 90/6.7 is a fact. If you dont have the minimum tools they dont care about your "moxie". Once you have those tools needed, your other baseball tools come into play.

Um, why the snark? Bballman gave you the information, the tryouts are with scouts. These are for the guys that something happened and they didn't get drafted....they got sick and stopped playing and are now back....they had a baby and quit and are now back....their parents wouldn't/couldn't let them play, or your a science teacher who's arm healed weird and now you throw 97...hehe, love Dennis Quaid.

Anyway, you have to have been overlooked and yet be amazing. What he listed qualifies as amazing and was what they were looking for FROM THIS GROUP....not that you have to be that amazing to get to MiLB, but that that is what this group had to be in order to get there through the Braves "open tryout".

So, I guess this confirms that speed and velocity don't really matter after all ... in 40+ men's softball.

Were you there or was this hear say?

I dont think I believe this because if they did this 99% of the players trying out would have been sent home.

These are more of a publicity deal than a real tryout. I do not think they would send anyone home early.

I would love to hear more about this tryout.

I texted with his dad. I texted him at 10:51am on the day of the tryout. Here are the exact texts:

Me: How's things going?

Dad: Had to run a 6.7 to stay, pitchers had to throw 90 to stay. Did not run a 6.7

Tryouts started at 10, this was 10:51, so this kid was done pretty early... He also said they only had one chance to run and claims he had no time to stretch out. I also talked in person to the dad. They are pretty close family friends. It happened...

And my understanding is these are actual tryouts, not a fundraiser or promotion or anything. My son has had many teammates attend over the last 4 or 5 years. It doesn't cost anything to attend.

Here's a link to the tryout camp schedule.

I'd like an infographic on effective techniques for yelling at your kid.

Thanks.

Personally, I would like to see it. Like it or not, it's all about the numbers.

I thought the same. That is why I shared the info here. Remember that Jupiter has player from different classes. Last year ranged from 2017-2020's. Underclassmen made up 32% of the pitchers. That being said the average for the classes did not have a big drop off.

The top velocities ranged from 97 down to 69. 25% (177) of the RHP were at/over 90MPH and only 9% (20) of the LHP were at/over 90MPH. What is very interesting is that of the 20 LHPs, 15 of the 20 were right at 90. There is your unicorn, LHP throwing over 90. At least last year at Jupiter.

I have broken down this data in many different ways I have been thinking of publishing an infographic. Would that be of interest?

Getting back to the topic of this thread...IF YOU WOULD YELL AT YOUR KID THEN THEY WOULD THROW HARDER!
