My son is playing 12u this season, and is very interested in going to Cooperstown. His team, which we like, isn't going. There are probably opportunities for him to join a team that is going, but I'm not sure if it's worth moving teams just for the trip. I get the impression that lots of teams look to add pitching/catching (at least) for the trip, so he might have the opportunity to go that route, but I'm also wondering if going as an "extra" player wouldn't be as much fun as going with a group of teammates you've been playing with for a year.
Send him. Teams are always looking for extra pitching and there will always be injuries. We had 2 extras and they had a blast. They will get to know the other kids in short order. Hey you can always offer to go as a counselor too.
Well from our own experience, Cooperstown is a deal breaker. My son was able to go to Cooperstown this year as an 11 year old and we will only consider a team that is Cooperstown bound next year. My son can not wait to go again and neither can I.It was more than just hitting 6 HR's it was the time he had bonding with his teammates and coaches. Do not make the same mistake many others have by justifing not going. My son was also asked back for 2 additional weeks...It was not the same for him because he did not know the other players very well and there was also some resentment because he got significant playing time over the other kids.Good luck and never settle in life.
