You're right. I didn't scroll down far enough to see the Monday games on the tournament report page. MBA Pride tied San Diego Stars, Oklahoma Rays are looking stout. Seems like 1/3rd the field just cannot hang with the top 2/3rds. Lots of blow outs.
for those of you who'd like to follow the results on the USSSA web site, remember to change the year from 2011 to 2010 in the year pull down box at the lower left of the tournaments screen, or nothing will display.

The Good: Bay Bombers have not given up any runs in their two pool games. Pools C & D are each 10-6-2 and have 4 of the 5 undefeated teams.
The Bad: Pools A and B are each 6-10-2 and have 5 teams that are o'fer
The Ugly: Oklahoma Liners got run ruled all 3 games (outscored 36-4) so far .

Oklahoma Rays are the only undefeated team left. Bay Bombers have not lost a bracket game yet and play MBA Pride tomorrow morning. SD Stars have lost a bracket game so fell into the losers bracket. |

No doubt we would have loved to be at this tournament. Unfortunately, half of our players would have to miss school during their first week of school. Just doesn't make sense to put baseball before school. Turns out we were even offered a spot but had to turn it down. I really believe we have what it takes to go deep in this tournament. |

at first they showed the Bay Bombers advancing past TABU, but "no score" was posted. Now, they show TABU advancing by a score of 10-8. Was this just a date entry error, or was there some other issues? |

baseballpapa wants to be the one of the first to congratulate MBA Pride. Make no mistake about what this team has done. They have proved in the only arena that it can be proved that they are the best 11U team in the nation in 2010. What a run they had and even though Papa bleeds Bandits blood I will be the first to vote them in as the undisputed best 11U team in the nation.
Great job kids and great job for the Florida Coaches also. This is a great victory for not only this team but the state of Florida and to Southern youth baseball.
To sit here and think of what they did gives me goose bumps and I want them all to know that I am very proud of their efforts. |

I must say that it has been a pleasure watching this team grow this year into what has become the 2010 USSSA and AAU National Champions. I feel as if this team has one of the countries best coaching staff and as a result great things follow. The parents of this squad has sacrificed their lives to insure unity, sportsmanship and the desire to be the best team possible. I applaud all that are involved with the MBA Pride organization.
I would like to thank Myrvel Melendez and Roger Hutchinson for their support while playing with your team and even while playing against you. You both are a class act. |

bmoser, MBA has done what many have talked about in the ATL area over the years - they have combined the best 3 or 4 players from 3 elite major rosters. Basically, they have formed a travel ball all-star team in Florida. For the Elite 32, they even added a great player from a Miami team to help with the many games to be played in Disney. It payed off in both respects. Their team was a powerhouse in every aspect and the borrowed player was named offensive MVP for the tournament.
Comparatively speaking, MBA had a much easier bracket to navigate and therefore ended up at the final four as the only team without a loss so their pitching was fresh and plentiful. They run ruled every opponent in bracket play.
San Diego battled them hard in the championship, going up by a 3-1 score early in the game. San Diego's pitching couldn't contain the powerful MBA bats well enough to stay on top though. It will take a special pitching performance to overpower this MBA lineup and I suspect you will see it happen a few times next season but not very often. They have put together a very talented team and they are very well coached.
I was also very impressed with the San Diego team. They are not big, especially fast nor do they have overpowering pitching. They are, however, very solid in every aspect of the game and also very well coached. Their road to the championship was nearly impossible. First they had to defeat the TBS #1 ranked team OK Rays. Then they had to defeat the Lamorinda Diablos twice to earn their spot in the final 4.
All in all, if you are interested in seeing the best of what the country has to offer in youth baseball, this is a great tournament to see or participate in. I only wish our Bandits would have been there to mix it up with all these great teams. |

Bandit_Hawk: Thx for the Elite 32 report.
So, the MBA players have a primary team they typically play for closer to home, then come together for a few National events as the MBA Pride (the all-stars of travel ball)?
If so, I guess their primary teams are not playing USSSA between April 1st and August 1st and not playing in any SNIT's. Or, they could play up on their primary team, then return to their actual age group with MBA.
Florida's Major players often play for multiple teams in a season, and Georgia's Majors stick with 1 (for the most part). Take a look at Major rosters of both States and compare the total number of players per team per season. Don't click the current button, but review them all. I'd estimate GA averages 13, Florida 18. Might be a function of their weather and ability to play year round.
San Diego Stars had a brutal path to the final 4 for sure.

No, bmoser, the MBA players primarily play for MBA. What I meant was the players used to play for 3 other major teams the year before their 11u season.
For someone in ATL to do something similar, they would have to combine the top 3 or 4 players from say the Bandits, Sandtown and ECB Titans. That would form a team similar in structure to what MBA did this year for their 11u team. |
