Hello Everyone,
My name is Wes Fields and beginning with the 2011 season, I will be assuming the role of head coach for the East Cobb Astros 12U team. I am very excited about this position. I am a five year veteran of East Cobb Baseball, including the past three as head coach of the 17U Astros. Prior to my time at East Cobb, I have worked as an assistant coach at Young Harris College, North Cobb High School, and Berry College where I played and completed both my undergraduate and masters degrees. I also spent time last Spring assisting the 12U White Sox and the 14U Team Rawlings clubs at East Cobb. My motivation to make the move to 12 is a return to coaching, teaching, and developing young baseball players through practice and competition. I welcome any questions you may have and look forward to seeing you and your sons at this weekend's tryout.

Coach, the 12U players are lucky to have you coach in our age group! Are you keeping the current 11U Astro roster? How many spots do you look to fill? Do you know how many teams there will be at ECB for 12U next year? From what it looks like on the posts here most of the teams have already held evaluations and set their rosters prior to the ECB clinic. |

To All 12U Players and Parents, You are extremely fortunate to have Wes in the age group. He has a rare gift for coaching and motivating young players. While appropriately demanding, he rewards hard work, effort and respect for the game. His practices are intelligent, organized and rigorous. They positively push the player to higher levels. This maybe the closest it gets to a college style program. I can’t think of anyone more qualified than Wes to prepare a young player for the next level of play. What a unique opportunity in the 12U age group.

Thank you Ms Fields. We look forward to meeting your son playing in our age group for 2011.

Stinger, Nice try at humor. I don't have a son in the age group so nothing to gain on my end. My son did play for Wes in recent years as did Spencer Kieboom - Clemson, Hudson Randall - Florida and Brandon Thomas - Georgia Tech, to name a few. Great coaching is at a real premium particularly in the lower age groups. Just thought a little firsthand insight on Wes would be helpful to the group

This question is for anyone who is involved with the Astros 12u. How many players will be on the fall roster?...I had heard it was to be 20 boys. It has also been speculated that the roster would eventually be cut down to 14-15 for next spring. Can anyone involved please clarify this issue. Many are also asking what happens after HS ball ends and Wes returns to coach the 17 year olds. I am sure this has been worked out already. If this is the case on roster...what happens to the boys who are not kept for next spring? |

My comment was purely a joke and had nothing to do with the Coach Fields personally. I'm sure sccapcity's comments were completely sincere from an appreciative dad.
Your comments sound like pure propaganda from a competitor. I could be wrong but I don't know of another EC team that works the way you describe. Or any parent who would sign up for the scenario above. Be careful what you write on this board or I am sure shots will be aimed back at you and/or your organization. |

Stinger - That's exactly what happened last year with the 12U Astros regarding high number of players in Fall and then cut before Spring. These kids had to scramble to find teams and I don't think the parents knew in the fall they wouldn't be on the team in the spring. Obviously Coach Fields wasn't the coach but it did happen. Might be part of the reason the 12U coach is not coaching over there anymore. |
