I have no problem paying gate fees; in fact I would have LOVED to pay this morning. My question is why were you able to watch youth baseball today while ECB decided to cancel? Also, are you telling me that the Yankees didn't profit from the "ECB Yankees Invitational"? |

I too am one that hung out all day in the rain. From 9:00am until 9:30pm. However, my boys got to play 2 full games and 2 innings of a bracket game on great fields in TERRIBLE weather conditions. I'm pretty impressed. Good job Yankees!!!! We'll be first in line for your next tournament. |

Why were the 11's allowed to play on Sunday down on field 6? If the fields were closed to everyone then why did they get a pass? 6 looked no different than the other fields and it sits on the lowest part of the complex. I understand protecting the fields early in the season but why were the 11's allowed to play? I know they modified their format to only allowing the top 4 teams to play but why wasn't the same thing done (or offered) for the 10's? 10u Yankees must not have as much pull as the 11U Longhorns do at ECB. Who knows. I think we need to have a talk with Mother Nature and get her calendar in-line with ours. No more rain on the weekends!!! |

touchemall I think the answer is obvious. The 10u Longhorns were still a participant under the modified format that they used for 11u while no EC teams would have played if they opted to do that for 10u. I'm OK with "looking out for #1", but I agree with you. Not a drop of rain fell on Sunday and we should have played baseball. |

Wow. Now I'm annoyed. Our boys were at ECB from around 1pm until 9:30pm on Sat...AND NEVER STEPPED FOOT ON A BASEBALL FIELD!!!!! And now to hear that other teams played at ECB on Sunday, while the 10u division was canceled, tends to make me agree with spw12 a few posts up. |

Touchemail, SPW12, Hillio,
Field 6 was the only field open at EC. With 3 time slots open on field 6 they could only play a reduced schedule. 10u longhorns waiting just like everyone else to see where the were seeded. They were number 3. top 4 played. Had nothing to do with the 10u Longhorns being in top 4.
The 10u fields were not open. Enough said about weather and a parks decision to not open fields.
BTW, i watched youth baseball because I was in Peachtree City on an artificial turf field.
Second BTW, I was at EC from 9:00am until 10:30 PM Saturday waiting to play.
Stop the complaining....Names, Weather, it is too much.
Have a tourney at your park and see how you handle 20+ teams with no fields to play on.

Don't see how anyone can fault the TD if the park makes the decision to close the fields. |

I was not complaining. This is a discussion board and I formulated my discussion based on wondering why the 10's did not get a chance to play (or maybe they did and they turned it down) and the 11's did. I am not addressing the discussion on the Yankees getting their money and running with it. I respect both the Yankees and the Longhorn programs and all they have achieved. I just thought that if all fields were closed that meant all fields were closed. When I saw a game being played on field 6, I walked over and looked at the 10U fields and did not see any difference in quality. I felt like if they had put just as much work as the 11's did into their fields, they could have been playing. The higher ups at ECB probably saw something different (but this is a discussion board and therefore, I felt it needed to be discussed). So, my discussion (not complaint) was based on the assumption that the 11U must have WANTED to finish their tournament a little more than the 10's. I can see where others can read into the fact that NO ECB teams in the 10U tournament (plus the Yankees were not even playing in their own tournament) would have qualified for the top 4 spots had they chose to use the same format as the 11's. I believe one team was 0 and 2 and the other was 1 and 1 after pool play. And I can see how the 10U Longhorns were one of the top 4 teams in the 11U tournament giving ECB an extra push to finish their tournament. No conspiracy theory here but maybe a little more of a vested interest in seeing the tournament thru to the end. Bottom line - we need to have a serious talk with Mother Nature so we can go back to complaining about umpires and coaches - ha. |

Gentleman,
First and foremost, the families of the East Cobb Yankees appreciate every team that played in our tournament as well as all of the family and friends that came to watch. Saturday was more than eventful with lightning delays, rain delays and a very late night for all. We appreciate your patience in dealing with things out of all of our control.
As far as Sunday is concerned, please understand that selfishly, the Yankee families are as mad and probably more upset than any of you that we were not able to play on Sunday. If there was any way we could have finished this tournament, we certainly would have.
We hope that all of you will return for our last tournament of the year. It is the weekend of May 20. This will be a great warm up for your end of the season league tournament, state tournament and world series. We are limited to 21 teams and will take the first 21 that pay. You can register and pay online at our website. www.leaguelineup.com/ecb9uyankees or email me at trippboyer@gmail.com
Thanks again for participating and for your patience!!! Here's to dry weather the remainder of the season!!! |

Thank you Touchemall. You took the words right off my keyboard. I, too, have the utmost respect for the ECB organization. They have established and maintained a level of excellence in youth baseball here in the southeast that inspires both awe and envy. I was not complaining, either. Merely "discussing" what appeared to me at the time to be an outcome of the tournament that served ECB to the exclusion of others. Thank you to everyone that replied for helping me improve my prospective and put this issue in the past. We won't have another game until after Spring Break. I would have hated to carry a resentment that long!! |

Any plans to award points for the tournament? For games completed? Or at least pool results?
Also, current standings posted on USSSA site do not match pool results. Last year's tournament on 5/28/10 (similarly rained out) used pool results to determine standings and some teams received credit for bracket games completed. This year, tournament had 4 of 8 1st round bracket games completed but no team received credit. |
