Ok, Some one please explain why all the pools play within their pools, except for the F and G pools that play a cross pool schedule? The A pool makes little sense in terms of competitiveness Vs the other pools top teams........ The EC Titans get the worst draw playing the Rays and the Longhorns, Maybe Tony can explain his thought process???? Looks like a rematch for the A-Titans and Spartans from last week's USSSA BOS pools...

PATbb, I had the same qeustion when I saw the schedules come out. The only reason I could possibly come up with is maybe a couple of those teams had certain game time requests that needed to be met. Even then though seems like those teams could have been pooled together and played within their pool. Hopefully the TD will chime in soon!! |

I'm sure there is a logical reason behind the deviation however the only out of town team in these 2 pools is the Moccs. |

Here is the reasoning on why the last two pools had to cross pool for pool play. It came down to time slots left for Friday night without getting out of there too late with 8 pm starts. Please keep in mind that we start double elimination first thing on Saturday morning.
Without starting at 8 am in the morning.
Here are the time slots and there are only 4 fields there at Fowler. 10 am 12 pm 2 pm 4 pm 6 pm
Pools A, B, C, D took up the first three time slots with their 3 games within pool. That only left the 4 pm and 6 pm left. So we had to cross pool and then move all of the teams in between games. We could not play another 3 games within pool without 8pm starts. The teams that ended up in those last two pools requested to play late on Friday. That is why you have East Cobb playing each other because there was no other place to put these teams and their requests. Another note, pool play in this one really does not mean a hill of beans. You better make sure to not lose the first or second game in bracket play in the double elimination playoffs. It is real tough to come all the way through the losers bracket, but I have seen mighty teams do it in the last few years.
I hope that I gave you some insight into what I deal with on killer Tuesday nights. To Mike Kirksey, Chris Ottinger, and others out there that have run tournaments, I commend you guys for putting on quality events. The work you put in sometimes is not appreciated and there will always be critics. I appreciate the entire 12u age group and it has been one awesome competitive season.
Thank you again and look forward to a crazy weekend of baseball.

ok so we got the schedule mystery answered, who wins this one? Braves have had a few losses recently but are always the team to beat. I am gonna go with RBA Titans, Braves, NYO and alpharetta titans in the semi finals. |

PATbb you are right. Too bad for the ECB Titans. They will be a low seed before things even get started. Glad the scheduling was explained because pool G is the toughest. All of the pools seem to have a clear winner except G. |

Clearly the Braves are still top dog; one loss to a top 5 team does not diminish what they have as far as talent and coaching. What I am more intrigue to see is how much if any the switch back to non-wood bats affects the games. You had several teams that really adapted well to using wood, in fact some were putting up 9-10 runs per game against solid pitching and solid defense. What do you all think advantage or disadvantage |

I hear the RBA Titans made significant adds to their summer roster which aided in their success this past weekend. Not judging per se but certainly worth mentioning.
Has the Braves roster stayed the same?
Has anyone else made significant changes?

I agree that they are the top dog but out of the last 3 losses, only one would be a top 5 team. Now, woodbat stuff is alway harder to predict but the transition back will be very easy and in fact might make them better hitters because you need to learn to hit with the good part of a wood bat.
Onto another topic, recently heard that coach k of the braves is staying down to coach at the 12U level again next year? Say it isn't so coach, you guys have been the top dogs for so many years, travel ball next yr won't be the same. Who will we target to beat then? |

Not that pool play matters but East Cobb Longhorns and East Cobb Rays can both go 2-0 . Seeds are not determined by where you place in your pool but your win loss record - differential etc as compared to the other teams in the tournament. I agree that it is a tough draw for Titans but the best team in tournament is not always the top seed after pool play. Therefore the first game on Saturday could be easier then the two in pool play. The double elimination format this weekend will make it interesting > The only concern that I have is that with rain likely for Friday will they reduce the tourney to a single elimination or play only one pool game then seed. This will make seeding a lot more important and definitely change the strategy for this coach !! For me I am praying for good weather !! |

Don't read too much into the win over the RBA Titans. Looks like RBA had a totally different group of kids playing today - much different than last week when they beat the ECB Braves. |

Quite a few upsets! However, this format and pitching limitations lends itself to some upsets in pool play. It is going to be fun to see how Saturday and Sunday play out. |

Braves are set to make a run. If RBA can get past the Gamers, the Braves had some payback in mind for them. They are still the team to beat. |

The NYO Titans are no doubt the team to beat. Take your travel ball dollars and long season of drama and leave them at the door. NYO has none of these issues to worry about. They are legit and rested. NYO wins in the ship against who cares............ I'm out! |

I love these double elimination tournaments. The teams with the deepest pitching will be the last ones standing. Even after a win or two in the winners bracket you still have 5 or more games left to play once your in the losers bracket to win the whole thing. That adds up to a whole lot of innings over a few days.
If you don't have 8 or 9 serviceable arms its gonna be an uphill battle.
