The Cherokee Reds are pleased to announce a new 12U team for the 2012/2013 fall/spring season.
Last year there was no 11U team so we are looking to fill every position on the roster and on the field. This is an OPEN tryout and there is NO cost to participate.
We will be holding tryouts on July 21st and July 28th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at Barnett Park (10795 Bells Ferry Rd. Canton, GA 30114). We will also welcome private tryouts as needed. Yes we do hold a certificate for the 2013 Cooperstown Dreams Park Tournament.
Please preregister by sending an e-mail with the following information to 2013CR12U@gmail.com.
1) What teams has your son played on in the past? 2) Typically what positions does he play? 3) What positions does he want to play? 4) What are your goals for travel baseball?
We are also looking to add to our coaching staff so please include any pertinent information if you are interested in joining the coaching staff.
I have had a number of players show interest, but communicate complications with the tryout dates. Please make the posted dates if you can, but if you cant please let me know you are interested and when we can schedule a private tryout. Thanks
We will post any changes to tryouts due to weather on this posting and I will e-mail all of those who have responded with the pre-registration information. Thank you
Excellent turnout and lots of good players came out. Thank you to all. We are looking forward to another great session on Sat July 28th at 10:00am at Barnett Park.
If you cant make it, please contact us and we will arrange a private tryout.
who will be the head coach of this team?what kind of background does he have in coaching?
I apologize for not seeing the question. Everyone else had e-mail directly and some have asked the same question:
My name is Doug Cox. I have coached baseball for 10 years and the last 2 with the Cherokee Reds travel organization. I coached the 12U team last year playing my son up, but this year with the open team behind us I decided to stay down. I played some in college and some semi-pro ball as well, arm problems ended my opportunities to continue. I am experienced player in all the positions (principally played shortstop, pitcher & catcher) and confident in my abilities as a baseball teacher and strategist, but I am very interested in a strong supporting coaching staff for both player development and team decision making. I also have plenty of contacts into what people advertise as professional instructors and I have no reservations to reach out to them if needed.
Excellent turnout at the 1st set of tryouts... I would like to invite all the boys that came Saturday to come out again this Sat July 28th at 10:00AM... and also any who were not able to make last week. From the turnout I expect that the Cherokee Reds will have a strong team this year.
