We will be hosting tryouts for the 2013 12u Shaw Park Thunder on Saturday July 28th from 1:00pm-3pm and again on Sunday August 5th (time to be finalized). Thunder History We are a 2nd year team that plays out of Shaw Park in Marietta, Georgia. Our inaugural season was very successful with top 5 finish in Lanier League regular season (out of 18 teams) and (2) tournament championships.
Coaching Philosophy The primary focus of our program is to further the development of sound baseball fundamentals through hard work, discipline, positive attitudes and a team first approach. We want to build a competitive team that is respectful and representative of a “one for all and all for one” atmosphere. These boys will learn what it takes to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We plan to teach sound fundamental baseball skills leveraging experienced coaching and professional instruction programs during the “offseason”.
Who are we looking for? Our coaching staff is looking for athletic and aggressive players that approach the game in a serious and professional manner. Additionally we are looking for great families that enjoy supporting their sons and working together with the other families on the team to make this experience special for all those involved. #8232;We will have independent evaluators coming and will give fair consideration to every player/family who tries out.
What is the time commitment? We will begin in the fall with limited practice/training and selective scrimmages. If you are planning to play a fall sport go for it!! I want my players to have other interests and hobbies outside of baseball. During the winter months we are planning to setup professional led training and conditioning programs at JCS sports facility. The spring season will consist primarily of Lanier league play (20+ regular season games with season ending tournament of champions) mixing in 3 to 4 local tournaments spread throughout the spring season until school year ends. Our end of year destination will be Cooperstown!!
Financial Commitment We are currently estimating costs in the $800 - $900 range (not including Cooperstown). We will offer the ability to spread the payments over the course of three phase’s fall/winter/spring. Our ultimate goal through fundraisers and sponsorship drives will be aimed at making the cost to play ZERO for those who want to do put in the time and effort.
