It has begun. Staff Reporters onsite reports as recvd and focus will be on Southeast region teams:

has elite 32 lost it's luster? there are only 28 teams and they would have taken anyone who wanted to come but still couldn't sell out. What is really surprising is there are not that many teams from florida

Will be interesting to see if Phenom has the same team they brought to cooperstown.

You see it every year about this time. Teams budgets in the red, kids burnt, families tired and money is low. Especially with the 12u age group as well. The 200 ft standard make it a no contest with the game many times being skewed with a ton of pop up jacks. Only a few local and semi local team can hang with the super elite recruited teams. I am also surprised at a few teams missing if they were taking all comers for the last few spots. Go Stros and Braves!

I totally agree Farmer with your ponits. The most important part is some well needed R/R after Cooperstown.

I think it has. That tournament was great when it was the Elite 24. You had to really earn your spot, and the Super NIT’s were loaded because of that. Some of the Super NIT’s at that time were as good as the Elite 32 is now. It’s sad that it has gone downhill so much. The economy probably has something to do with the decline as well.

Looks like Phenom is the class of the tourney. Two runs allowed in three games played. The bracket displayed makes no sense at all. Doesn't include some of the highest finishing seeds!?!?

I saw that, not sure what the bracket was because I was confused. Phenom is the team to beat, the GA teams seem to be doing well but the top end talent is missing too many of the top 20 teams in the country.

There are more teams in this one than TBS but TBS seemed way more competitive to to bottom. Am I missing something?

Got the bracket confusion figured out now. Didn't scroll to the right to see the whole other half. Not used to a two sided bracket from USSSA. Good luck GA teams!!!

Pretty interesting bracket as it is Double Elimination to a point then turns Single. The games before the Quarter Final (i.e. 45, 46, 47, and 48) are useless. This is where you throw your Batboy. Regardless of the outcome you play the same team again and the winner of that advances. Anyway, it will get the job done and I like the approach.

My bad.... Games 49-52 are listed as "If" games and therefore they would not take place if the Loosing bracket side looses the previous game.

Looks like the Braves own the Astros. Question....did the Astros actually improve this year, or was it just a good team of talent from the start? Honest question, not trying to start a fight, just curious what others think.

Guess I am just really ignorant but those are some of the most confusing brackets I think I have ever seen. Bad thing is you just keep seeing the same teams playing over again until the finals. Yeah I know winning will take care of it in the end but I would have prefered to see a few other match ups instead of the same teams playing each other multiple times.

That is the thing I dislike most about the Elites....My favorite tourney regardless but they split the bracket up so that you play the same 8 teams until the quarterfinals. Kinda sucks to drive 500 miles and play someone from your own backyard.

Amen to that. The East Cobb matchup is really unfair. Drive 8 hours to play a team they could schedule a game and be playing in 8 minutes.
