Never said the sox were out of it, just was commenting on the scores at the time the rain came and why the white sox were given the championship, seems as if baseballboy10 didn't know what had happened...

His first day pitching there were 2 guns on him one on either side of the plate. He registered 78, 79 over and over. The hardest pitches were 80,81 and one gun showed 82. Dad on the team said he has hit 84 in practice. He is 13 already (May birthdate) and plays mainly at 13u

Sorry I didn't get to see him throw in person then. We (Hobgood Extreme) played in a 13U tournament in Cumming this past weekend and had to face a kid throwing 81 on the gun. Even moving back four more feet to 54 foot mounds, that ball gets on the hitters really quickly.

By the way, I have to give a very positive shout out to Nations Baseball. That was our first NB tournament this year and we were very favorably impressed. I love the way they use text and email messages to send out game scores and pitching records at the completion of every game. I wish more of the tournaments would use similar technology (one tournament we played in this year used Twitter and that was equally as nice).

why are we clocking 12u kids, are you college or pro scouts?...does it make a difference? can they hit spots? can they throw off speed? I have not seen a kid dominate a single game with one pitch....Good hitters at 12u can manage a fast ball....

Baseballboy10-I saw the kid pitch from Team Velocity. His pitching looked about the same speed as Juan and Goodman, although I didn't clock it. If he threw a lot of pitches the day before, his arm was probably out of gas (so to speak) when he faced your team the next day.

youthbaseball- I couldn't agree with you more!!!! :) Lets wait until all of these boys have hit puberty to measure their speed.

I hate to break it to you guys, but most of these elite 12 year olds are already 13 and have also hit puberty already. Also, I most certainly HAVE watched more than one pitcher dominate a game with 1 pitch.

I watched Juan come in against the Roadrunners last week with his team already down by 5 runs and strike out the side twice by throwing mid 70's fastballs.

I watched Goodman for the Astros all season long dominate with his fastball. Sure, he throws a curve and a change as well, but he throws 90 - 95% fastballs and the teams still can't hit it.

And the reason I put 12 year olds on the gun is to see how fast they're throwing. It helps me when I get ready to prepare my team to know what speed pitches they should be hitting in practices to prepare for facing these types of players.

There's no disagreement that location is key, but if velocity didn't matter, you'd see a lot of guys in the pros throwing 70 mph and hitting spots instead of low-to-mid 90's and hitting spots.

I still disagree that most have started puberty. I've seen all of these teams play and sure there are many, but there are a lot more that haven't. I can't wait to see next season when they ALL hit puberty and catch up to the handful of boys you are talking about. Not to mention going from 50 to 54 on the mound. Speed and off speed are very important!!

I wouldn't say most...but this is when it happens! Some have and some haven't! It will all even out later. Good Job Astros beating the ECB Braves in the 'ship! Great job Braves! It says alot about ECB when this is the 4th time these 2 teams have met in the championship!

It is the 12u team. We are only a month away from playing at 54/80 anyway and we figured the pitching would be more like what we will be facing at the Elite 32 next week.

If you are talking about the 12U Astros and injuries, although it has been stated as fact on this board a couple of times now, there is no hard evidence that playing up in the 13U tournaments caused injuries to the Astros - it is only some folks opinion. A couple of players had some back issues early in the season and a couple more had problems associated with growing and puberty but those same symptoms most likely would have occurred even if we had stayed at the 12U level. None of the kids had arm issues that I am aware of. No one has shown clear hard evidence that playing up one level caused more injuries. Yes the distance changed but these boys on the Astros are large kids and have less of a time adjusting then I'm sure many small 13U kids will have next yr. Playing up to see harder thrown pitches should help when we get to the Elite 32 and see those hard pitching 12 yr olds.

I saw two great games last Sunday and Monday between the Atlanta Icon and Southern Jaguars in the AABC State tournament. After hearing through the grapevine about the match-up, I took the trip to Fulton County. (Sandtown Park) The games were well worth the 1hr and 40 minute one way trip because they did not disappoint. They were about 100 people watching the game on Sunday.
Both teams had their ACE on the mound with a back and forth battle. The Icon took the game 6 to 5 stunning the Jags coaches, players, and parents.

The Icon drew the Jags again in the next round. (Monday). There were an additional 50 spectators on top of the 100 for the prime time game. IMO. It was the loudest more spirited little league game my son and I have ever witnessed. The Jags pull the victory off 6 to 5.
I don’t know what happen in the championship game yesterday.

We all know about the Jags; however, the ATL ICON is an up and coming team. I was made to understand that there are not affiliated with any known Academy, they are an independent team that is funded by the parents. With a few more pitchers and one more impact hitter, this is a team on the rise. No major tournament victories, but they are padding their resume by racking up some impressive signature victories over some good 12U teams. Word to the wise, this is NOT a AAA team. Have your #1 ready. The boys love to hit and run. The coaches play aggressive baseball.

We were very fortunate to get an at large bid to the elite 32...although I don't like answering rhetorical questions. I just guess USSSA GA was wanting to be represented by both of Georgias best...That's my guess.....

we haven't had the chance to play the RRs, but from their schedule and amount of wins against
some of the ELITE teams. they have earned the right to be there. if anyone has issues with
at large bids, they have always given bids to teams who have shown they can compete. our bombers would have tried to get a bid, but we know we are not one of the top 32 teams and wouldn't want to take a spot from teams such as RR.

no doubt the RR's are an elite team... but usssa shows them as 9-7 vs in class teams...top 32 worthy???? they are def among the elite in the state and better than that record but there are alot of good teams that are better than 9-7, nothing against the program they have alot of talent and will win some games for the state... i hope all GA teams come out and play well... Go Astros, RR's and Stixx

All teams going to the elite 32 are allowed to add three players to their existing roster. We have added two. Most other teams will be adding the three players. We look foward to competing vs some of the best teams and players in the country.
