Pool games were played through Sat night with bracket play to start today. All of Sunday was rained out and tournament was canceled after pool play. 1-3 seeds after 3 games of pool play based on runs given up were EC Yankees, Ringold Tigers and Oregon Park Sharks. |

Yankees dominated the tournament. I think it was 19-0, 12-1, 13-1. Saw monster HR out of a big park. Heard rumblings that they didn't even throw their big kids, and still nobody could touch them. |

Well lets tap the brakes just a little. ECY played three pool games, just like everybody else (all 19 or 20 teams) and clearly did well. But we never even got to see the results of the elimination brackets, and plenty of results can occur that you don't expect. It seemed like many on this board had the Longhorns 9U team described as nearly unbeatable, and they lost before the finals of the Atlanta NIT.
I wish we had a chance to play more games on Sunday. I guarantee there were other teams giving less experienced kids a chance to prove themselves in pool play, just as you say the Yankees didn't "throw their big kids." Saying they dominated a tournament of 20 teams when only three pool play games were played is just a little strong..
That being said.. great job by the Yankees for the three games played! |

Another shot at the Longhorns...the same 9u Longhorns that played in a 22 team 10u tourney at ECB this weekend and beat the 2, 3, and 6 seeds in bracket and lost to the 1 seed Shiloh titans in the championship 7-6 in the last inning! Guys, every team is beatable and the Yankees cannot be faulted for doing what they were supposed to do in pool play. Its not about trophies or how many notches are in your belt, but rather how these incredible kids are challenged to do things that others think impossible or believe they are not capable of achieving. While many were in Dalton dodging rain, the 9U Longhorns were sending many solid 10u teams packing...and I'm sure the Yankees will start challenging their kids to do the same. Ask the Shiloh titans, who coincidently have beaten the 10U ECB Braves, what they think of the 9U Longhorns! Keep at it all of you and enjoy the challenges that your kids face and conquer and worry less about who's "better" and more about how much better the players are becoming! I promise not one of you posting or worrying about who's this and who's that, or Longhorn, Yankee or Yard Dog bashing, will EVER remember who won what at 9U!!! |

Ringgold Dominated its pool also. 17-4, 11-2,28-2. Oregon Park also dominated their pool. Thats what good teams do. Other teams that looked good this weekend, where West Forsyth Diamond Dawgs, Ga. Red Sox and the Navigators. It's Baseball its about pitching match ups and anyone can beat anyone on the right day. |

Great post...
Why dont we stop beating up on the Longhorns. What did those kids do? They are playing extremely well. Thats all they have been asked to do. Play with heart, courage, and attitude.
They played up in a 10 u tournament and got beat in 6-7 in championship game vs the 10u's
I say lets bring the best of the best together and see what happens. The outcome will be different 4 out of 5 times.
That 9u baseball...

Nobody on this thread, particularly me, is "beating up" the Longhorns. I just used them as an example of how winning pool play does not constitute dominating a tournament, which is how the Yankees performance in three pool games was basically described. Both teams did terrific in two different events, and who knows if the final outcome for the Yankees would have been the same as the outcome for the Longhorns in the NIT. We didn't get to find out.
Bashing? Nope. Congrats on another great tourney though. |

It didn't seem to me that anyone was beating up on the 'Horns either. They were just touting their own teams' successes. No one will deny that the 'Horns did very well this past weekend and have a great group of kids. BTW, I don't think Shiloh has beaten the 10u ECB Braves. They did beat them last year at 9u though. |

Both ECB teams are far superior to everybody else. I'm not certain why there are so many out there who cannot see this, perhaps it's because their boys did well on the coach pitch circuit. Perhaps next season your boys will surpass ECB. All this blog is suggesting is that RIGHT NOW, it's not close. When the ECB teams square off against the others, everybody in the stands and on the fields expect ECB to win. They pitch better, they hit better, they run better. |

gohornets I presume you mean ECB Longhorns & Yankees when you say "both ECB teams." ECB has 4 teams @ 9u.
Several close finishes by ECB Yanks seem to preclude them from being "far superior to everybody else." Better? Yes. Far superior? No. |
