Georgia Thunder 16U is currently looking to fill 2-3 roster spots for the Spring/Summer ‘18 season. Ideal fit is Pitchers who are also position players as we will cap roster at 13 so all players see a lot of field time and AB’s. One slot will be reserved for a primary catcher. Season will run May thru July and we’ll play approx 40 game schedule that includes Triple Crown, PG, and other Tournaments.

We have a cost efficient model @ $1,000 per player so we look for players that can contribute in multiple spots and have strong commitment to improving their game.

Jose Fernandez, Head Coach @ Berkmar High School will be the Head Coach of the Ga Thunder & staff will include current Varsity Coaches & Collegiate players home for the summer.

For more information or questions please contact rbonacci@yahoo.com or text 404-723-6188

There will be an opportunity to meet and work out with the team on weekends in December.

How can you possibly get through a week long PG tourney with that few amount of kids?

That’s more of a judgement than a question, and I know you’ve been on many teams over the past few years (based on your hundreds of posts) so I also know you have lots of experiential knowledge. For us it’s quite easy to get through a week long tournament as we carry a lot of pitchers and all players play, a lot (I assume a lot more than when you have a roster of 15-20+). Do we expect to face the most elite teams in the final every week? Probably not... but there are plenty of teams with 15-20 roster and $3K+ fees that get flattened at PG and TC routinely. No judgements here, all teams have a place in the marketplace and it’s great that there are so many options available. We’re looking for very specific players that want to play a lot. I hope not to sound too snarky, it’s not my intent.

You aren't coming across as snarky, and I hope I am not either. I have seen many teams and my son has both been on and guest pitched for more than a few. That is why I don't understand teams that purposely set up like the one you are describing.

PG using pitchsmart kind of made things go wonky, just posting these for others who may read this so it makes sense, not trying to tell you what you already know.

16u amount of pitches allowed:
0-30 = 0 days rest
31-45 = 1 day rest
46-60 = 2 days rest
61-75 = 3 days rest
76+ = 4 days of rest

-Pitcher can only pitch in one game per day unless he pitches under 20 pitches.
-Pitcher cannot pitch in 3 games in one day
-No pitcher can pitch 3 days in a row regardless of pitch counts.

Arguably the most important tourney of the year for 16u is the WWBA, it is June 8th - 13th. That is 6 days with a 7 game guarantee, so I would guess that means for teams that don't make it to the finals that is 4 or 5 days to play 7 games.

How does a roster of 13 kids do that with the current pitch restrictions PG has in place? Not trying to judge, just trying to learn.

Chalk Girl, sounds like you've been paying $3K for big rosters and Rich hit a nerve ? LOL

The above is very clear.....they are focusing on playing time for the boys and not the BS typical Academy crud of take 16-20 kids and play your best 9 while the balance finance the Academy owner vacations in Bermuda....and add insult to injury.....the same Academy owners while they say will develop your kids will constantly post for tryouts of the very teams they are fully rostered on. Seriously, you can run a business and use kids/parents and charge obscene prices......all in the name of developing a kid as College player.....when we all know if you REALLY want to showcase you kid for college levels then the showcases are the best bang for buck. You've been around the travel block in Atlanta.....it is absolutely criminal how it is operated.

So, the above is great example of group of guys that know their stuff giving select kids tons of playing time for great price for the parents. If a 13 kid roster has 6-8 pitchers then they are golden......even 4 of the 8 can be inning/pool chewers. All you have to do is bracket with your top 4....and maybe you run deep into that.

In general, it's a trade off......does the parent/kid want to be on team that collects trophies and has name brand jersey with minimized field time ?.....or are you a parent/kid that wants to play ball and if you are 500 team and you've played 90% of 40 game Innings for only $1K you are happy camper. I'd say many folks having gone thru the Atlanta travel "experience" are tired of the highway robbery with false promises. I applaud a group of selfless individuals who will take the time to help kids actually play ball & not exploit the unsuspecting parents who really don't how Atlanta travel is run.

BTW......just point of note......myself nor my son have any affiliation to this team....I just know the folks running this and also been in this Atlanta travel rate race for some time.
