Does anyone know the exact policy USSSA uses to seed teams for pool play games or where you can find it in the rule book? My understanding was it was by team classification, then points. As an example, playing in a Major Super NIT tournament, all major teams will be seeded first by points, if AAA team also in the field, they would be ranked next, followed by AA, and then any team playing up a year. IS this not correct?
I see one for this weekend where it was done completely by points, classification and age group ignore. So a team playing up a year that has more points on the season is seeded higher than a Major team and a AAA team in that age group. None of their points were earned at the age group they are playing up in this weekend. Which means they avoided having to play the #1 or #2 ranked teams in pool play and giving them a better chance to avoid both in bracket play as well. |

Redsox23, It is our experience that pools are set up as you have stated above. Once in pools the games are assigned by points and exactly as stated in your second paragraph. There are also special requests for times that some directors get that will totally change who you play. In some tournaments the pools are also set up geographically when playing two different parks. Northern teams play at the northern park and southern teams play at the southern parks. I guess it comes down to what the director has to play with during that specific tournament. It's not just USSSA that does this, We have experienced it in all the different sanctioning bodies. |
