I am interested in starting a new team in my area. I have college playing experience and coached high school for 10 years. My concerns are finding the proper resources to have what is needed: insurance, budget help, securing a field, etc....anyone point me in a good direction with that kind of help. Thanks.

Securing a field is the biggest obstacle. Insurance is nothing. Pay one of the 3 or 4 organization $100-200 and have a roster filled out and signed and you are good to go. The budget can take a little time but anyone can do it. Just figure out how many tournaments you plan to play and multiply times average cost of those tournaments. Then figure out uniform pricing (jerseys, practice jerseys, pants, belts, socks, hats, helmets, bat bags depending on age of team), baseballs, indoor/winter costs, insurance, gamechanger/etc, umpire fees for any scrimmage games you plan to play, then depending on age of team any end of season tournaments and associated fees. Add the field costs to all the above and then divide that by total number of players and you have a good start.

Any parent on the team could be the 'treasurer' whom can handle the budget, insurance, uniforms, tourneys, etc. Finding field and indoor space is key. After that, it's all down hill.

Thanks for the link. I am not in metro Atlanta area. I am northeast and there arent too many teams except a few organizations. My plan is to partner with FCA in my area to create a team. Wanting to do something bigger than just baseball especially in my area.

Have fun with it. Be as open with parents on exactly what the goals of the team are, and hold to it.

Also - my biggest lesson learned, if you have a family/player that isn't a fit...the good news is there are lots of teams, parting ways is best for both parties and the team as a whole.
