Yes, it's going to be a long Sunday for the teams that make it to the championship. You better have some deep pitching if you want to pull this out. |

Yeah, I have to agree. There are some very good teams in this one. Even the AA teams are good. Pool play games will be a big factor too, because seeding is going to be very important in this one, especially as far as pitching depth is concerned. |

Website says that all Friday night games were moved to Saturday due to heavy rain in Dalton area. Quick review shows that pool games were not just moved but pools changed since last night.
Interesting that Pool B has 4 Chattanooga teams + JCS Jackhammers and Pool D has 4 Marietta teams + Ringold Baseball Factory. |

The #4 and #5 seeds in each pool would need to play 3 games on Saturday followed by winning another 4 on Sunday to win it all! Thats alot of baseball for 10 year olds. ANY team needs to win 4 on Sunday and half the teams would be playing back to back to back to back. Who's got 12 quality pitchers on the team and 6 catchers? Thats your winner. |

Our team always performs better when playing 2 or 3 games in a row as opposed to sitting around for 2 hours or more between games. And they'll all tell you that they would rather play back to back games instead of having to wait. I don't think that it'll be a big deal since it's still early in the season. If it were May or June, it would be a different story because of the heat. |

Does anyone know how pools are usually chosen? Does USSSA rankings/standings have anything to do with it? Or do they just randomly draw names out of a hat or something? |

Pools appear to be done STRICTLY by USSSA rules. Look at the 1-20 seeding and pool B is 2-7-10-15-18 and pool D is 4-5-12-13-20.
FYI, Championship Day at Cooperstown, winner has to win 4, so it's a good test. |

They were the Ringgold Tigers last year. Took 2nd at Grand Slam Sports World Series (Session 2) and handled some tough teams along the way.

Im not sure why they completely scrapped the pools and started over. Part of the excitement of playing in a tournament away from home is seeing teams that you don't normally face. That's not going to be happening much in pool play.
Also, I wonder why they arent having Gold and Silver brackets with 20 teams competing. Really makes for a tough Sunday schedule. There are probably only 2-3 teams in the tournament that have this much depth. |

12U Coach, Looking at the USSSA Tournament Central link, I see the Pool Play Schedule, Pool Standings, Bracket After Pool and Innings Pitched. Where are the seedings shown? Also, you mentioned "USSSA rules" for seeding/pools. Where might those be found? Looked through the USSSA Official Baseball National By-Laws and Rules 2011 but could not find anything related.

Just curious why the original match-ups were different if the current schedule is USSSA proper.

I am also curious why teams are traveling over an hour to play their neighbor's kids in pool play. They could stay home and do that. |

Any predictions on Pool Winners? Here's mine: Pool A ... SP Xplosion Pool B ... Chattanooga Chiefs Pool C ... EC Yankees Pool D ... Ringgold Baseball Factory
I pick Ringgold Baseball Factory to win it all. EC Yanks, EC Mudcats, Chiefs or Xplosion could play for the title. |

1. Seeding: http://www.usssa.com/sports/TournamentSeedingReport.asp?TournID=728430
2. Creating Pools: OK, urban legend, but system used every year I played in USSSA State or NIT to create pool works well. System was to rank teams by Major/AAA/AA, then by points, then by date/Time signed up for USSSA. Teams the go through a snake draft for pool creation. Takes out any and all prejudice. Creates silly pools (See pool B and pool D). |

12UCoach - thanks for your help. I looked at the list of teams playing 20+ times and didn't think to consider it as the seeding. Makes sense. As does your "snake draft" explanation.
Southern Baseball - thanks for working with what Mother Nature gave you. Moving Friday games to Saturday and still shortening championship Sunday from 8 to 4:30 is quite a task. I hope the weather is clear as forecast. |

Congratulations to Ringold for winning the tournament. They had a great run on Sunday with some solid pitching and timely hitting. There were a lot of good games over the weekend and a few surprising results along the way. |

Some very close games in the quarter final games preventing some of the favorites and #1 seeds from moving on to the semis.
Kudos to Southern Baseball for a great tournament. Congratz to the boys from Ringold BF on their win. An impressive win against the EC Yankees (6-1) on their road to the ship. |
