Any predictions out there? Which team has the bats and the arms to go 4 games and win the Gold bracket? Looks like another great weekend for youth baseball!

bbnutz, have to agree with you there. I'll also throw in SP Explosion. There are some solid AAA teams in the tournament that may surprise.

SBO Strikers and South Paulding are clearly the favorites in this one. But as always, it will depend on seeding as to whether they both make the finals. I'm leaning toward South Paulding, barring a one-inning meltdown like the one they had against Sandy Plains a couple weeks ago.....
I'm looking forward to seeing this Hurricanes team that everyone keeps going on about.

The Hurricanes that everyone is talking about are not in this tournament. That Hurricane team is from Cumming.

I believe the two Hurricanes teams entered are not the one that has been talked about on here. However, with 15 different teams named Hurricanes, I could be wrong. Also, I have seen two different brackets for this tournament. The one linked above, and this one. http://www.eastcobbbaseball.com/reg_teams.php?trid=104&age=10. Should be a great weekend of baseball no matter which bracket they use.

Oh well.
I've always wondered why teams choose to give themselves names that are used so much that it's beyond the point of being ridiculous. Longhorns is another one. I can name 5 different longhorns teams off the top of my head...and that's just the 10U age group.
Apparently the Hurricanes are a good team, but who knows which of the 5 are going to what tournament. Makes no sense.
Be original. There aren't any hurricanes or longhorns in Georgia anyway......At least not enough to warrant naming a team after them.
As an aside, I'm being told that the AA Georgia Chaos are a decent team, and that they'll probably do well in this tourney.

The Georgia Hurricanes are not in the Yankees tournament. Not sure where they are, maybe taking the weekend off. They are as entertaining to watch as anybody. It looks like this field is missing the big names, where is everyone this weekend?

Looks like the Yankees are hosting the pool-brackets from their website. They have moved all games to either East Cobb or Kell Softball field.

There are 3 10U Hurricanes teams. The current Georgia Hurricanes played 10U last year and are from NE area (Cumming). The East Cobb Hurricanes are made up of a team out of Smyrna that was also called the Georgia Hurricanes last year. The East Side Hurricanes play out of Fullers park in East Cobb County. Confused yet.

South Paulding certainly has a favorable pool draw and should be pretty fresh for bracket play. I would favor West Forsyth, Coal Mountain and SPX but I could also see 3 or 4 other teams winning it as well. I never pick the champion correctly anyways....

Gabaseballfan, we got to play them a couple of weeks ago, and they are a scrappy, wellcoached, bunch of young men. We made a few maistakes, and they made us pay for everyone of them. That is the mark of a good team. Didn't notice any superstarts just a group that played very well together. I am sure they will not lose any sleep over your disapproval of a bunch of 10 year old boys, where they play, and if they are afraid. I was very impressed with their group, and the way they approached the game.

Is there not going to be an "innings pitched report" posted anywhere for this tournament?

Good question. For whatever reason, the USSSA page for this tournament is totally bank.

Rain is here, so it will be a long weekend without baseball. I am not sure why people are bashing the Hurricanes. I have watched the team and walked away very impressed. I contacted the coach inquiring about lessons and walked away very impressed with how he handled my 13 year old son. I am going back with my younger son. It is very obvious that they know what they are doing. I was impressed with watching them and then more so after coming across their web site address on this discussion. I do think they will be a major force in youth baseball. Just not sure if the coaches will move up with this team or stay at the age group.

I think people are tired of every thread turning into a Hurricane Baseball sales pitch. I think they are a solid team and when they play and beat some of the better teams then we can talk about them as one of the top teams.

Right now I am angry, annoyed and mostly disappointed; it may effect my objectivity. I'm just the dad of a kid who was excited about playing in the brackets on Sunday. For all I know we would have been going home one and a half hours after the first pitch but now we'll never know. Same thing happened last year. After playing through downpours on Saturday to get to the brackets, the tournament gets canceled "due to weather" while we spend all day Sunday totally dry. It makes me think that ECB is only concerned with the money (I warned you at the top). They collected the entry fees, three days of gate fees, saved on umpires fees and gave out no trophies. Especially after how the ECB teams played in the tournament, I'm convinced it's all about raising funds for the "premier" teams -Longhorns and Yankees - while everyone and everything else is secondary. I can't see any reason why we are not playing baseball right now in this tournament other than playing on a moist field may cost ECB a few dollars to repair.

spw12,

The 10u Lonhorns played in the 11u tournament at EC and were beat in Semi's. I watched Thursday, Friday and Saturday games and paid gate fees. I was at another age group today at a different park and paid gate fees again. I paid because i wanted to watch and my younger kids love to watch baseball.

EC does not collect gate fees. The team hosting the tournament does. They are the ones that are helping get fields ready(before and after every game), picking up trash, setting brackets, and updating scores.

Other tournaments charge each team a 125-150 gate fee that you have to pay before you play. Look at the Slugfest tournament and see how that turned out.

I thought the team that ran the tournament did a great job even under the difficult weather conditions.

EC, You have the best fields in the Southeast, please keep them that way!!!!
