I agree, can't take anything away from NC. Every tournament could have one team complaining about a bad draw. It's all part of the game, part of the adversity these kids have to overcome. Sometimes you get an easy path. Success is always accompanied by a little luck, but you still have to earn it and you can't underestimate any of these 10U teams this year. |

I saw some amazing stuff Sunday. I saw a straight steal of home in the Yankees vs 643 game, I saw a young man from NC hit a grandslam vs Valdosta (heard it was his 1st hr!), I saw what may have been the hardest ball hit all weekend get snagged at short in the bottom of the 1st in the 643 vs WP game and dbl up the runner on 3rd, I watched a big boy from Ringgold hit I think 4hrs in one day, one off his shoelaces about 240ft to left! I saw a LF from Kennesaw run down a shot in the gap, I saw a ss from Ringgold make every play and I saw the "Miami" play for the 3rd out to end the WP/643 game as WP cut it to 1 run with a runner on 2nd. And that was just Sunday -Great day!! |

This was an unfair tournament. The TD should know these teams well enough by now to correctly balance the pools. The teams that advanced in this tournament didn't have to use their pitching early. They are very good teams, but it's a huge advantage. 643 ends up having to use their pitching as a 4 seed becuase the Yankees and Mills Creek are matched up together. Ringgold and North Cobb didn't use anybody, and then had the benefit of an OP upset. Ringgold gets to face Mills Creek after they get their pitching depleted by an underrated Yankee team and very rested Mudcat team. Then they face 643 AFTER 643 battles the Yankees and Wills Park. It's one thing if everybody is going to be loaded into the same bracket, but entirely something different when teams have to use up their pitching due to the gold/silver set up. Congratulations to the Warriors, you won, but there are MANY who believe that there are easily 6-8 other teams who would have won this tournament had they had your schedule.
Great job by all the teams doing what they had to do to win, and to the Warriors for making it work. Hornets - Yawn. I look forward to your comments after your games in Cooperstown, both the pool play when you face the Virgina, Pennsylvania and New York AAU State Champions and the unfair bracket that forced you to play a team from your zip code that you have played 3 times before (twice out of 6 times for my teams). Or, when AAU in Disney keeps you at the field, in the rain for an hour and you play soaking wet. Or when USSSA changes the SNIT format to a Sunday shoot-out (I actually enjoyed it, even though the Loser final was done at 1AM)
Until then, please take the advise of a shirt we had printed in 1997 "They're your rules, we just play by them"

Hornets -
What about CRCT testing? You forgot to list that as an excuse above but got most of the others listed. Sorry you did not have a good weekend. I saw a lot of great games and commend all the coaches and players who gave 100% no matter what team they were on. |

A big CONGRATS to NC Warriors. They got off to a slow start this season but have picked up momentum with two tournament wins this year -- Blue Jays and now Backyard Brawl. Don't know where GoHornets is coming from! If any team wins 6 games (0 losses), allows 8 total runs while scoring 81...my hat's off to them. And as to "using" pitchers, I'm friends with the team and know that they used/pitched their best early, batted strong and their pitching can go 7-8 deep. Lastly, if this tournament was "unfair" and NC didn't "earn" the win, I guess "luck of the pool" can be said of every tournament. GOOD WIN NC WARRIORS! |

We (Valdosta Batmen) played this weekend and had a great time. We played the Yard Dogs at the Super NIT and I was more impressed with NC yesterday. It was close early, 2-2 after 2 innings but we left the bases loaded in the top of the 3rd and they cleared the bases on the bottom half on a grand slam and never looked back. Each team we played had a great group of coaches and parents. I am glad we don't live in all that congestion up there, but do wish we were closer so we could take part in these events more often. Hope to get back up there for at least one more event this year. |

Congrats to NC Warriors for a strong tournament, also to Ringgold. It shows that the there are a number of ten year old teams that can win on any given weekend. |

We all know the "draw" does make a difference, but with that said, when you have so many quality teams in one tournament some teams are going to get two tough pool games. Winning a tournament with such a strong field is quite an accomplishment. Congrats NC. |

North Cobb beats Ringgold 12-1 in the final. NC ran through this tournament this weekend, very impressive!
Speaking of IMPRESSIVE, man-o-man can those Covington Sting swing the bat.
After a fast start besting Gamers Blue 15-3 in pool play, the Sting went down to a hungry HomePlate ChiliDog team 9-5 in the 2nd round of pool play.
But the Sting, showing tremendous resiliency, a number of arms, and an all out love affair with fastballs battled back to beat the Gamers Red in 8 innings and the Nationally ranked 10u GA Yarddogs Blk 9-8 in the ship.
The Yarddogs got to the ship after beating the Auburn Stixx who pulled off a dramatic last inning comeback win over the "STILL" hungry ChiliDogs erasing a 5-2 deficit to win 6-5.
Congrats to the Covington Sting for winning it all and the Yarddogs for getting to the ship and putting on a power hitting display to be remembered.
Just shows even the big boys aren't unbeatable....there's many other 10U teams that can compete on any given day. Some solid 10U teams this year!! |
