Since we are near the end of "silly season" and many of us have been to numerous tryouts and this is a blog for many coaches/parents etc to have friendly input, any one want to take a stab at projected top 5 or 10 teams in Ga next season (at least on paper). Now before everyone goes crazy I'm aware of the fact that no one has played any games yet and rosters still may change a bit through fall but based on last season, coaches, and known pick-ups who's your pre-season top 10. Saw where LSU #1 in college football...Will they be come February!

amen there 12.. some of you talk like these kids are paid baseball players who are guaranteed to hit 20 hrs and hit for a 600 average...Whats going to be real interesting is how many get a girlfriend in middle school and quit working so hard to be good.

I like Astros, 643, Ringold, Braves, New combo team with JSC coach,WF Diamonddogs ,and whoever lands boys from Jays. Would be interesting to know so when fall begins an you get chance to play some of these elite teams it would be a good measuring stick for your team especially with all the confusing USSSA clasifications changes. And almost forgot Huricanes played 12u schedule last year they should be tough too!

Title of topic was "REAL SILLY" so lets dont get crazy. Last year we played for a new team in a different age group and we were lucky enough to play top teams in fall our coach said " Might as well jump in there with the big boys to see where we stand" The result of that was several but whippens that humbled kids into a posistion to learn that first pitch strikes matters, staying back an hitting the ball to opposite field matters, throwing 3-2 curveball thats fouled off followed by inside heat matters, if you dont get good lead offs dont go you will get thrown out, dont play scared because of what thier shirt says, move runners via bunt or ground ball to 2nd, expand the zone with 2 strikes and make good contact, dont try to pick off runner at 3rd with 2 outs, throw low outside change-up to 3 an 4 hitter to get popup or inside to jam him into a ground ball instead of 300 ft bomb. These are things we were told and to be honest I thought it was too much for 12u but if you watch the good teams they execute these things well others have to learn. In my opinion kids learn more from mistakes against great teams than winning 15 to 3. Great part of last season was watching kids begin to do some of these things as season progressed and eventually upsetting some (top 10 majors) and finishing season well. All these kids that play travel at 12 are good players but you cant beat great teams by having good players you have to learn to play the game the right way to get right result. It takes time and is hard for 12u kid to understand he needs to work harder and change some things if he wants to compete with the big boys and its really hard if you dont know who the big boys are. And the other great thing that happened was alot of the kids at season end have made teams at next level. Dont think that would have happened without playing top teams.

Read Blue Jay posts about not having team this year... Exceptional coach with outstanding kids and one of the best organizations in GA. To some top ten matters for very specifec reason and it has nothing to do with whos kid is better or batting avg. or "just playing ball". There are plenty of places in Ga to just go play ball but in 12u Major travel that will simply not yield a pleasant result. You are right they are kids and will change dramatically in very near future (girls, puberty, other interests) but alot of work behind the scenes goes into competing at this level.

We actually played with kid last year in 12u who hit way over 30 hrs. but with only 450 batting avg. and we were AAA. He didn't never get paid though but I'm sure if he would have it would help with expensis on this years team;)
