Just curious, am I the only one who thinks that TC should provide trophies for the players on 1st place team? TC's team fee is the highest out there and they pay $1.00 to $1.50 for the 1st place medals. But I gotta give them credit in that they sure run a great tournament. |

I still rather the kids get a 1st place t-shirt that says Triple Crown whatever 1st Place so they can wear it around. |

I guess I would like to see TC spend a few bucks on the kids. TC would have generated approx. $65K in team fees (if they had not had to refund $$ due to rain) but provided $1.50 medals to the kids. |

Memphis, I think you underestimate the potential for the medal to increase in value as the dollar slides. Look at it as an investment in the children. Thats what helps put my mind at ease when I hear the "clank" as my son tosses his into the sock drawer. |

This topic has come up a bunch. TC doesn't care and that is very unfortunate. If only Tony would listen to what the people who are actually making him the money, say. Why doesn't he visit with the kids and see what they like? |

Trophies, medals, T-shirts, plaques, award bats, they all eventually become dust collectors and are boxed up and put away. How about the winning team gets their entry and gate fees paid for at the next tourney they enter? |

For the young age groups it stinks. After 10 who cares. But last year at 8yr. old won a medal the poor kids were like what? |

I do want to go on record saying I think Tony and TC do a great job hosting the tournaments. For the most part, the games are played at nice complexes and the competition is usually top notch. |

I can't speak to any particular tournament or organization's awards or fees. But, as a generic issue I have a few questions. I've got a pretty good idea of the cost involved, and it seems the general consensus is for individual trophies, so... 1) Would you rather forgo getting a big team display trophy in order for players to get decent individual trophies?
2) Would you be okay with increased entry fees for better awards in order to have a team trophy AND decent individual trophies? Again, not addressing any individual organization or their current rates, just recognizing that with a typical field of 8 teams that's about what it would take to do it for 1st & 2nd without cutting into the TD's current take.
3) How about trophies for 1st and medals for 2nd? Or, awards based on number of entries in a class? For example, trophies with 12 or more entries, medals with less than that?

If you really want good trophies play GRANDSLAM. Like most of you here, I have shelves and boxes full of the trophies from my older son playing. His little brother is gonna really feel slighted if all he gets is medals. Personally I don't care, but the kids do! They played and practiced hard to get there and deserve a little more than a medal especially in the big tournaments. |

First of all, let me second Phattso's last comment - Triple Crown typically puts on a well run tournament at nice facilities and did a great job getting in what they could this past weekend.
I'll go on to say that I have been reading this message board for a few years now and there has been A LOT of complaining about TC and the awards they give out, not refunding gate fees, etc. etc. etc. Well, not much has changed, if anything. You have to ask yourself, if you were TC, would you change anything? Why would they? Whose tournaments are making every weekend? I wanted my team to play in different tournaments last weekend and this weekend, but none of them were making - at least not with quaility competition. Why? Because everyone was signing up for the TC tournaments. We all know that Tony reads this board and we all know that no matter how much bitching we (myself included) have done, not much has changed. There is only one way to REALLY get the attention of TC, or any other sanctioning body for that matter. You all know what that is. When, if ever, will we all agree to do that? Until then, if I were Tony, I wouldn't change anything either. |

Very interesting topic. IMO a lot of wasted breath about nothing. Who really cares how nice the awards are? $1.50 medal or a $5 plastic trophy is not the real reward for the kids. My son works hard not for the piece of plastic but for the feeling he gets that all his hard work has paid off. The pictures and memories last much longer than the awards anyway.

I'm going say that I agree with Renegade. I'm also going to further say that 2nd place medal/trophies or anything is kinda stupid for the tiny 4-6 team tourneys. Oh wow...you got 2nd out of 5?? Way to go...
The whole business of collecting trophies is silly. This should be about the boys becoming better players. Period. Think BIG picture guys.
Okay...I'll soften it a little bit. Give the little kids (8-9 years) trophies for first place AND second place. All the rest should be first place only and in a tiny tournament maybe just a shirt.

I say take the medals out of the 13U and up and spend the extra money on trophies for the young players. I also say forget trophies for the coaches. If you take out the gate fees I would say forget trophies all together. |

Most of our trophies go in a box in the attic....We keep the trophies from the really good or really big tourneys....Medals suck....I don't really understand 2nd place trophies, half of the families we are close with don't even keep the 2nd place ones...spend the extra money and make sure the winner gets something to be proud of not a medal on a piece of ribbon. |

Much less updated the website at 9:00 pm, 3:30 am, 6:30 am, 8am and then again with schedules for Sat and Sun...
My son gave his medal to his little brother....But he has 4 pictures on his phone from the Tournament with his teammates....
Keep Playing! |

After the age of 7 or 8 both my sons and my daughter, as well as all of their teammates over the years, have always laughed at the "junky" trophies they have won. Only really cared about the bragging rights.

My kids 12 with a room full of trophies onshelves, under the bed, in drawers, etc. Still wants the trophy when he wins. Medals still, and always will, stink. T-shirts too. He uses the T-shirts to dust the trophies. |

I have 2 boys playing who are only 1 year apart. The younger brother has more trophies amd you better believe he lets his older brother know about when he needs to. They may be junk and end up in a box, but they still like it when a trophy is handed to them after they win a tournament. |

I agree with everyone that the kids deserve a trophy when they win 1st or 2nd place. These kids do work very hard to try and get to the ship, and to be rewarded with a medal or towel is kind of a slap in the face, especially when the triple crown tournaments are the most expensive out there. The best solution... stop playing in them until they decide that the kids are more important than the dollar that goes in their pocket. |

Maybe my kid is in the minority but he really doesn't care about the trophies or medals. In fact, recently, he threw away all of his 2nd place trophies/medals. Of the one's that he kept, only one has any meaning to him and that one he got from his undefeated 6 year old team 8 years ago. The rest are stored in a box in the attic only because I wouldn't let him throw them away just yet. I like the t-shirt idea much better. |

So, who's going to be the trend setter and pull out of the next TC event?? I only like TC for the competition, but can't we put something together collectively that will be better, less expensive and more meaningful to the kids? |

WOW... Some are actually considering pulling out of TC tournaments because of the awards?? Seems excessive, but that's JMHO. TC has some of the best tournaments out there. Don't over think this people. |
