My 12U son uses the Combat B3 SL 30/22 and it is extremely hot, great barrel length and he loves the feel. Hard to believe these bats have been changed at all since pre stamp days. Lightning rod

Interesting comment on Combat. I know of a lagit power hitter on elite major team that used drop 8 combat last season and played over half of 60 game season without a HR. Only to play in wood bat tourn. at ECB and hit 250' plus shot.... Might be time to switch bats....Sweet spot is really small

May not be the right fit for that legit power hitter but my son rakes with it. Guess that's why there are literally 100's of bat configurations/ styles to choose from to find your right fit.

The best bat to get is a wooden bat. Teach them how to hit and don't rely on the bat doing it for them.
My 2 cents.

I'm with you there, my son swings wood every chance he gets. Teaches him to get the sweet spot to the ball.

I'm looking at the Louisville Exogrid2 30/20 and the Easton XL1 30/22. For a hitter with fast bat speed and power. Any recommendations?

My son loves his Vertex. A little bit end loaded, he has been hitting well with it.

My son played 12u last season and he used the 2012 B3 -8 for about 4 tournaments. He had the 30/22. The bat was hot right out of the gate. It also felt much lighter than 22 oz. He loved it until he cracked it. Combat promptly sent us a new one and he cracked the replacement bat in the first tournament. We had another player on the team with the exact same bat and he cracked it too. I bought him the Demarini Voodoo and he loved it. Just my $.02, but we will not go with Combat again. Maybe it is a bat that is great for the younger ages but not durable enough once the boys get stronger and swing with more bat speed.

I think too many parents buy composite bats for their kids at this age when their kids are not strong enough to get the benefit. Unless you kids swings like a man beast you won't get much benefit out of the composite. For 90% of the kids a Worth Lithium Prodigy will give them the most pop. Be careful they can dent, so have a game bat and a practice bat.

Also, a good coach will be able to tell if your kids bat is dead during hitting practice.

Most kids are at drop 5 or 8 by 12u. You don't want them going straight from drop 10 to drop 3 BBCOR when they get to HS. Better to do it gradually. If a 12u kid is small and hasn't hit puberty, then certainly do what you need for him to have success, but, in my opinion, a normal sized 12u boy should be able to swing a drop 8 bat without issue.

The drop depends on the kid. How strong is the kid. 12U is tough...peuberty (sp) hitting for a few. I would stay with the drop 10 unless you kid swings like a man. Maybe 1-2 kids on a Major team would qualify in my opinion. I had a 6' 1" kid last year and he could handle it. I did have one kid who played school ball and had to use the less drop bat, and it was a mess with him trying to use both. Stick with one and work through it. Come spring time they will probably be fine. I still sick by the Lithium for 90% of 12 year olds.

This is the age where we are separating the wheat from the chaff...no need to impede the kids with a heavier bat.

The Georgia Bandits one of the best teams to come out of the State #1 bat on the team was the Easton Omen -10 2 1/4. Hit 58 hrs in Cooperstown for the week. HIT 30+ @ Disney. They were voted #1 12u team in the Nation by TBS 2yrs ago. Hit with what works for you. They are using -3 now havent missed a beat. Kids adjust quick. Parents dont. We have a Omen -10 and a CF5 -8. Omen goes further by 15-20'. He uses CF5 mostly cooler paint job.

Be careful using a wood bat for practice and a drop 10 for games. I can almost guarantee it will cause your kid to pull off the ball. If you stick with the wood always have the kid work the ball to the right side (for righties) and let it get deep on him. This will keep him on the ball longer and prevent the pulling off that is likely to occur when shedding serious ounces on the bat.

Agree, he uses his wood for part of his cage work. We start with the wood & going oppo. and sometimes go middle if not tired. once a slip in mechanics we go to the -10 to finish. Wood is a -5 from viper bats

Gold one but that white one looks gooood. Think I can resist. I hope to have seen the last of the red easton's 2 1/4. But as long as we are on a field that is more than 250 not an issue. If a true major team is using that bat and the fense is 200 (ATPP) going to be a long day. Should not be playing in ATPP as a Major @ 12. A pop up is a HR. Note: Composites are not that big of a difference vs metal unless u have an aggressive swing. Contact hitters are fine if not better with prodigy/rival biggest bang for the buck. Plus they do well between 55-65 degrees. We have them too. My son 105lbs has hit CF5/rival 270-275, Easton Omen 2011 2 1/4 285 and one hopped into 300 fence.

You can resist....but don't!

The white cf5 hits way better than the gold one.

Also, you can stop DREAMING about the little red easton cause now you're going to have NIGHTMAREs with the new yellow easton!

The hits just keep on coming!

Yep...talked to an Easton rep the other day and the Yellow Easton coming out in late Nov/early Dec is the same bat as the "evil red bat". Just a color difference. We own the "evil red bat" and will be buying the yellow as soon as it comes out. Great bat but takes a while to break in.

2 1/4 ??? Thanks a lot guys. I was going to keep my bat expenses under 500 this year til I heard that. U say the bat wont cost that much. I wont use a great composite below 65 which means you have to have metal plus we break a wood bat every winter so that is two wood.
